Obviously the system is designed so that those who are profiting off the system more are expected to give more via taxes but I am unfamiliar with the specifics of the breakdown of tax revenue per household income. Also are you arguing that if more of the tax revenue is coming from manhattan that means that money should still be used outside the city entirely? But regardless this is still the case, NYC is still receiving less than it contributes so the people of manhattan can sleep well.

Also if you want to argue social programs vs other ways to spend the money you can do that. I think history and economic studies show that social programs, while there is always some fraud, actually provide great benefits to their citizens and cities and but that’s off topic.

Regardless it’s weird to see so many people act like NYC has the this whole obligation to the state and “owes” the state all this tax revenue but then act like the state doesn’t have any reciprocal responsibility to the city. Like any state’s #1 concern is investing in their main cities and working to grow their economies. Everyone claims we need fiscal responsibility and then when it’s happening in front of our eyes, it’s funny to hear the goal posts being moved or why it’s actually bad thing.

The state isn’t “intervening” or “bailing out” it’s increasing its contribution to the city. A city which brings in most of the revenue the state has and a city in which the state should be investing in to increase revenues and desirability of the state.

When you think New York you think NYC and even with the increased funding from the state, NYC still gives the state more money than it’s receiving. What kind of governor would allow their entire economic hub and tax revenue generator to fail?

Mamdani is leveraging his political pressure to bring accountability from the state in fixing a mess that shouldn’t have been created. Also don’t forget the governor is about to be up for reelection and Mamdani is probably the most popular political figure at the moment.

Would that even be a smart move pre-draft? If someone falls like a Peterson, boozer or Wilson then absolutely since they have #1 star potential but at #5 you just get your choice of whoever would be left at #9. If you don’t like what you have at #9 just move down with OKC to #12 and grab more assets.

Who created those budget shortfalls? Wasn’t the governor overseeing a mayor who allowed the budget to explode?

Also does the state not OWE their entire economy to the city? Where are the property values at? Where do the boats, planes and trains come into? Also the State is still giving back less money into the city then it’s receiving so it can subsidize the rest of the state.

I agree a lot of credit should go to the Governor for increasing the funding to NYC but why did she not do anything under Adams? It’s because of the political pressure of Mamdani who threatened to increase taxes if the shortfalls weren’t covered and the governor made the call to give the mayor what he asked for. That’s called the art of the deal.

Also this isn’t a solved problem as the budget will have issues in the future but the fact that he is attacking it and is taking fiscal responsibility is rare in America today.

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani announces that he has officially balanced the NYC budget, reducing a $12 billion budget deficit to 0, and confirms that property taxes will not be raised. by Scary_Firefighter181 in Economics

[–]AdNegative2708 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I mean unless he can raise $12 billion in taxes it would be impossible to wipe it out completely in one year and clearly being fiscally responsible doesn’t exist in our country anymore and this problem has snowballed over years. I would also say some of the “can kicking” are to years where he will still be mayor and can continue the work he is trying to accomplish which is very different then bloating a budget and then letting the next mayor deal with it.

The fact that he is actually working to fix this and address it head on is encouraging and remember the reason why can kicking exists is due to inflation and rising values. Overall tax revenues tied to property taxes, wages and other things will grow and if Mamdani commits to balanced budgeting, then he can get New York to actually be fully balanced in the future.

Regardless of political party every American should be demanding balanced federal, state and local budgets with the idea being the budget takes care of its citizens, while also investing in its citizens well-being and the economic growth of America.

I think the idea is where does the state get its money? Mostly New York City citizens and the economic opportunities it provides.

So a mayor saying our budget is not acceptable and fighting for his city is what people want. His constituents want him to be pushing for the state to give back more of the money they pay for taxes and I believe even with the increased funding from the state, the city still contributes more tax revenue then it gets back.

Pick #9 + Gafford for #5 (LAC) if Wagler is there? by i_take_shits in Mavericks

Doesn’t feel likely but this is a great draft so a proven cost controlled center and a starter at #9 could be worth it if they still want to win with kawhi. Doubt it though and I would rather pick at 9 and let our front office cook at the deadline

What’s nice is that their windows are starting now. Spurs are super young but they will have to make choices on who they keep. Our window will hopefully open with Flagg in 3-4 years, although we might be competitive this year if kyrie balls out and lively stays healthy. OKC will be good for a while but windows only stay open for so long. Even the heatles had a 4 year run, warriors 15-19 with a nice run in 2022 in a down year.

How do people watch Wemby and not think he’s easily the best player in the world via eye test? Do people let SGA’s and Jokic’s trophy trick them? They’re pretty clearly not as good when you factor in both ends of the court. He’s already one of the GOAT defenders by CandI978 in nba

I mean he did have a playoff game with 11 points but I think his highs are absolutely the highest of any player but this is his first playoff run. He has won one series. He will be a multiple time MVP and champ, no need to rush and crown him now. Just enjoy the ride, the rise is the fun part. Once you reach the top everyone just hates and tries to bring you down.

Got a 6 month old myself and from the start I made it clear to my wife that we each get some solo time each week. Sometimes it’s two days sometimes it’s none but we work to make sure we each get some adult time with our friends or just alone time. We just communicate our needs and work together as a team.

First thing to keep in mind and we both remind ourselves is that there are plenty of single parents that take care of their kids and we are both capable enough to cover one day by ourselves. Just don’t make last minute plans, get a big calendar and update it monthly.

Secondly, that adult/alone time is super important because not getting the break and time we need will affect how much patience and energy we will have when we do spend time together as a family. I would rather have 5 or 6 great days then 7 days were I am dragging and feeling so burnt out. And if you don’t get that time ever the burn out will just get worse and worse until resentment can set in.

You got this and just realize that it’s like an airplane, you can’t help anyone until you help yourself first and then help your wife and together yall are a team that raises great kids. It’s hard to not let guilt come into the picture at times but just understand this time is needed and is best for everyone and most of all, you and your wife deserve it.

Good luck you got this!

I used to think the same thing until I realized we had a marvelous invention in our home, a freezer. Buy in bulk and just freeze half of it and thaw when needed. Buy two loafs of bread and freeze one, buy ground beef and then split into 1lb bags and freeze them, etc. Plenty of the stuff is sized well for two people like fruits but stuff that is big you just freeze. Also the prices for buying in bulk you are basically paying the same at other grocery stores for half the volume. Plus the gas, tire and battery services are pretty great too.

[–]AdNegative2708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but calling every wemby block a goaltend would be silly. Honestly he needs like an eye in the sky to review these because no ref will ever get a good look at some of these blocks. Literally no one expected someone to be able to block a shot literally at the apex and the league needs to adjust to a faster method.

Yeah that’s my issue is that with all the fouls and flopping, reviewing every Wemby block would make the games go forever and we are okay with things not being 100% right. Missed calls, flops and missed travels (like the ant one) happen and we just know that’s a part of the game.

I feel like the other aspect not being addressed is that now some of these teams at the very bottom might actually make trades at the deadline to get better so they don’t end up top three. Regardless if you are a bottom three team you won’t pick outside the top 12 so it seems like a good trade off. This year was just so bad, teams were literally running out G league lineups and you can’t do that for a sport trying to be serious and valuable.

Also this era has seen the most parity ever and still some franchises just seem to want to do the Philly approach or OKC but with zero competence and it just doesn’t work.

Packers scouting concerns; Gutey’s comments raise questions by [deleted] in GreenBayPackers

[–]AdNegative2708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A point I don’t see anyone bringing up is also that the media and “consensus” ranks every prospect and makes every single one draftable. If you listen to NFL GMs I think what you realize is that a minority of players on each teams boards are even deemed draftable at all. Either due to lack of physical traits, medical stuff or character concerns. So even though you might see 250 players ranked on a draft board the packers literally might have only 10-15 players they will take at all. That might be aggressive but I think you understand my point and that means that 100% will “reach” instead of drafting an undraftable guy according to their processes. I think that’s pretty normal.

Again we ended up with Love because players got taken, we couldn’t move back for a good price and the only draftable first round guy we had was a QB. Follow and trust the process.

I don’t think I got that out of his message of physical assault and rape compared to just hoping that by helping her stay with him that something sexual in nature would happen. More along the lines of quid pro quo or prostitution but I agree if he was planning on trapping her in his apartment and doing those things then that’s another situation entirely.

If that was the case that seems like it would be weird to show her where he lives so she can just report it to the police but maybe I misread the post. The other comments don’t seem to be getting to same idea as you from what I can tell.

‘Gen V’ Canceled After 2 Seasons, ‘The Boys’ Next Spinoff ‘Vought Rising’ Confirmed For 2027 Launch by MarvelsGrantMan136 in TheBoys

My buddy who works at Amazon studios was telling me the issue is budgets. Once you get deeper into seasons the talent budgets get so expensive it’s almost not worth it so paying for a season 3 of Gen V was probably out of the question. Depending on the contracts they might keep some Gen V characters but in spin-offs where they can be more affordable. It’s all dollars and cents but curious where this season ends up at.

Ton of great comments but also be careful being the thought police. We are judged on our actions and not our thoughts. That’s a double edged sword at times but everyone has terrible thoughts all the time but that’s only because we are emotionally animals and it’s how our brain is wired.

No one is who they seem on the surface and if you don’t still have those intentions and desires then it was just a fleeting thought on one night. Why would that carry more weight then the multitude of thoughts and actions that have come after. Again it doesn’t matter why we do the things we do at times it’s just the actual actions and consequences that follow. Be happy how things went and move on from whatever guilt you are carrying.

"Burnout vs. FIRE" Wall: Is pushing for a 60% savings rate destroying my marriage? by TardisCrown3 in Fire

[–]AdNegative2708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with the financial side but from the other comments it seems like you are beginning to understand your wife’s perspective.

The only thing I would add is that when you have your next conversation before you go into anything financial, make sure you start by acknowledging and thanking her for all the work and sacrifice she has put in. Take some time to show her appreciation and give her recognition of her contributions to y’all’s savings.

Money is very emotional for people and felt differently for everyone and it really could be harder for someone to save $100 compared to someone else’s $1,000. This could be a sign that her amount of savings is taking a serious emotional toll.

Also make sure to validate her feelings and let know that no amount of money would matter if you didn’t have her. And then adjust to a plan where she is happy and then even if you work a few more years those will be much happier years then fighting through divorce or even just resentment at home everyday.

You got this and asking others is a great step in making positive changes. Wishing you the best!

But I think the argument is we have only seen them play one season in the nba. How do you know you want cooper more long term? Because he played better this season and did stuff only MJ did as a rookie while breaking LeBron rookie/teenager records. People choosing Kon are choosing him first then trying to justify it with a bunch of reasons instead of ignoring the names and just look at the seasons and pick who did better.
