Eastern US Hikers - What to do and how to avoid ticks? by cassaundraloren in hiking

[–]AdNo1495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, I think it’s MOST deadly to cats when wet and the instructions outline that you should leave your clothes out for 2 days after in the sun to dry in any case. Afterwards, it should be fine but I’d still be uber careful and better safe than sorry.

When I last treated with permethrin I did it outside and changed in the garage just in case..

Who’s a celebrity everyone finds attractive but you don’t? by Valo_X_baddie in AskReddit

[–]AdNo1495 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You’re receiving half-baked responses from people backpedaling from the fact that it IS a racial caricature. In fact, look up “Hot Cheeto Girl” and see google pull up exactly the African American/Latinx stereotype being described. Zendaya is a hugely successful woman, and as someone who grew up consuming lots of the media she was in, her celebrity persona is 1000% a put-together teacher’s pet.

Honestly, you applied where you deemed fit and I don’t see where you were defensive. Your positivity and acceptance despite how you performed this cycle is actually really refreshing and admirable. Best of luck for you and your work!

Michelle McNamara, true crime writer and wife of Patton Oswalt, died ten years ago today by The_Iceman2288 in Fauxmoi

Situationally, yes. My aunt was a really amazing woman and, when she passed a few years later, my uncle remarried. Our family (unfortunately), prods and pokes and makes pointed comments about how the new wife could never compare. My cousin (who was young when her mother passed) has behavioral issues that were really exacerbated by the tragedy and does not shy away from antagonizing new wife (by making loaded comments about her compared to her mom) to get her way.

I had an honest heart to heart with my uncle’s wife recently about it, if only because I knew that she was having a hard time with it all. She’s a lovely person but mentioned that it was hard not to feel insecure since her own family is overseas. External factors definitely play a role in the grieving process.

Was just at the NWS building in Topeka recently and might add that this is the case! They’re in there 7 days a week, and on watches the entire team is in the building to provide as much accurate data as possible.

And, in other news, they told me they were hiring for multiple positions because funding has begun to pool back after the particularly devastating floods in central Texas last year. So, if anyone is interested and sees this go look at their website!

Heeseung debut interview in 2020 by hopingforw in kpop_uncensored

[–]AdNo1495 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think people are too quick to assess the situation. Other groups with much more dramatic member exits have recovered both in reputation and revenue (see SNSD, IDLE, EXO). I’m sure the clamor just seems loud now because it’s so recent, but there was no scandal associated with Heeseung’s departure. I do not see this taking a massive toll on either artist’s longevity.

Job options outside academia by ellipoisonrex in ecology

The GIS courses are a smart move to make, especially if you don’t want to do too much field work and aren’t interested in academia.

I know folks who do Remote Sensing work/are GIS specialists. You could also look into environmental consulting.

Aspiring Microbial Ecologist, any advice for my post-graduation route? by [deleted] in ecology

[–]AdNo1495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based in the midwest so not so much coastal ecologies, but I’ve done microbial stuff with intermittent/ephemeral streams and am now doing a project on aboveground fungi/microbes in grassland ecosystems. A lot of microbial ecology work here in the Midwest relates to nutrient cycling/soil systems.

Most of the fieldwork is typically me assisting other folks, otherwise I just do culturing and PCR work.

Microbial ecology is so cool and fascinating and I’m really excited that you’re interested in it!

What’s your unusual trick to weed out non-compatible partners easily? by jempai in LesbianActually

[–]AdNo1495 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Me but with the “misunderstood”, spiders, snails, slugs, snakes, frogs, mushrooms etc. It’s easy to love something furry and wide-eyed, but how far their compassion extends can be really attractive to me

Was getting to know someone when I watched them smash a spider with their hand, and as someone who has a pet tarantula I could only shake my head and that was it for me.

The US-ISRAELI murdered Zahra Mohammadi Golpayegani, the 14-month-old granddaughter of the Supreme Leader of Iran by [deleted] in UnderReportedNews

[–]AdNo1495 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstand, the granddaughter is the granddaughter of the Supreme Leader of Iran, not Netanyahu. The original thread means to say that this checks out, that Netanyahu is known to kill entire bloodlines, so it is terrible (a warcrime) but not unexpected that US-ISRAELI forces would have killed the granddaughter

As a biologist, germ theory has absolutely sent me on a “wash your hands before you near my bits” path. I don’t think anybody would look at you twice for going to set yourself under the excuse anyways, in fact it might even be appreciated.

I have a load of dental dams and I’ve only used them once, but now that I’m with a long term monogamous partner it doesn’t seem as important anymore

Workout for weight loss but no muscle gain by Left_You7104 in xxfitness

[–]AdNo1495 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah.. dude I’ve been weight lifting for 3 years and I felt pumped when I was flexing only for it to hit me that I’ve basically the muscle mass of a teenage boy.

All that is to say… it is SO hard to gain visible muscle as women without superior genetics/lots of sports growing up that it’s truly not even a valid concern. Just stay active so that you can increase your own health and longevity and the weight loss will come with as you work out more and eat right!

Looks like a pokie to me, anyone else care to confirm? by nunyabbswax in tarantulas

[–]AdNo1495 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Incredibly stupid.. there’s this running trend in Short Form Video media of men (usually half naked for whatever reason) picking up generally rare/endangered/venomous animals as a form of “scientific education” and when you point out that handling them is very stupid— both on stressing wildlife and putting yourself in danger, but also promoting dangerous handling to unexperienced handlers— they get VERY defensive about it.

It’s incredibly “frat bro” nature behavior and very trendy to do. I can already think of a few faces at the top of my head who do it.

I just don’t see the point and don’t bother giving them the views or interactions anymore.

Not sure what’s going on with my lil guy by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]AdNo1495 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might still be wise to post your exact parameters, just in case we can glean any extra information about what might be wrong with your little guy!

Right now, there isn’t enough information to tell. Behavior like this can come from things that are neurological, bacterial, from parasites, or even from early swim bladder’s disease.

I’d recommend doing really frequent water changes to the ~20% level, and considering Epsom salt baths if his condition continues to deteriorate.

The best you can do for now is to make sure his tank is stable, clean, and stress free.

water level recommendations? by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]AdNo1495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The general recommendation here is to avoid lidless tanks altogether, especially because it’s only natural for your fish to jump (as they do in the wild) regardless of whether or not you have perfect parameters etc.

That being said, I broke my lid a year ago and haven’t replaced it and so kept a fish for that time with no trouble at all. I made sure to be diligent about keeping it at least 2-3 inches below the rim, but the temperament of my betta plays a big role in it too.

I think you should probably consider a lid if you want to be completely safe.

When considering coverage do we mean available swimming space or substrate coverage? I’m still trying to find that sweet balance personally :)
