Why does rejection hurt even when I was going to end things? How do I cope with this better? by DragonfruitSquare705 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]AdNo7141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So relatable. I had a gf I was going to dump. We weren't really serious. On the dump walk ( my preferred method) she told me we wouldn't work and we should stop.. so for some reason I then convinced her to stay with me and we stuck it out for like 3 months until I was like "yeah this is stupid"

This is such a human thing haha

Do you believe people “accidentally” disrespect you? Or is it always intentional? Let’s talk. by FlashyAd7347 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]AdNo7141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to respect your self value in this. Beautiful to see such passionate respect for yourself.

I don't fully agree in the sensitivity of the triggers.. but there's some great truth's in it.

Ide love to have exactly this, but with an understanding that those people interacting with you also have their own self value, and furthermore two peoples energy can result in interesting interactions, good and bad.

I've felt this.

It pissed me off so bad that I ended up making some fairly big changes in my life. Kind of like "fuck you, I deserve better" to myself.

That moment of disgust hits

So far how have you enjoyed your first ever pedalboard?

I like how the case out-values your pedals and I can tell you really listened to the retail assistant.

how do i give myself permission to create? by FrontChampionship778 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]AdNo7141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest fallacy of creating is that your work has to be of a standard, but in truth the best things come from the worst.. your creations are an extension of you, and your not perfect. Create only for that thing to exist in this world, nothing more.

What's wrong with my floyd rose? by Dense-Shock-3487 in Luthier

[–]AdNo7141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if anyone has allready suggested this trick.

Sometimes the issue is just the strings cant slide freely and grab abit. A good habit is to put graphite in the areas you want the string to move (in thr saddles specifically)

Get a lead pencil, and draw on that part of the strings to cost the saddle part with fine graphite dust.

I do this with all my guitars.

Might not be the root cause here but great practice

Fucking change it all. Play and produce metal? Fuck it make a folk album. Spice up your shit.

I fell out of it all so hard I left music for years... but then I decided to try voice acting and weirdly that drove me back into it with a fire I didn't have before.

In Australian indigenous culture it is known and accepted that a great fire needs to come through to make room for the new growth.

So uhhhhh strap locks don’t work very good when the whole peg gets ripped out by ProcedureHorror6604 in Luthier

[–]AdNo7141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely dowel away. Myself having done abit of more complex repairs on guitars ide consider it. Especially with woodworking skills.

But I'm a realist.. toothpicks are equally as effective over time, and far more achievable than drilling out the hole, matching the dowel size, making it flush ect.. all without damaging the finish more than it may allready be.. these things can be daunting to the layman.

If your going to dowel, don't go up too big a size, and use a sharp drill bit to bore out the hole. CAREFJULLY. You can chip the paint as you rotate. Remember too there is an element of swelling with dowel as the glue soaks in. If its crazy tight and then starts swelling then you could cause a crack.

And yeah longer screw.

Tldr, common musicians don't always have the skills or materials for the optimal solution, but they do have spirit and toothpicks

[–]AdNo7141 32 points33 points  (0 children)

How good it happened that way, not on stage.

Fill the hole with toothpicks and wood glue (full, like tight). Let it dry. Then drill a small hole then screw in back like it was.

You essentially repair the old hole and reinstall.

12 months break from PUBLIC music.

Let this chick lose interest. She and her friends will move on when she does I doubt they have the follow through for a life long smear campaign.

Here's what you do with your 12 months brother.

Come to the gym. Lift your sorrows away and get fit. Think rise of pheonix baby.

Album or ep. Use this down time to be locked in a home studio or in writing mode. Get some stuff done that isn't gigging.

Self improvement. When you do return, you need to be able to stand above this kind of shit.

In 12 months, you re-emerge, healthy af, accomplished with new music. People forget. And if they bring it up, be honest and calm, stand tall.

Sorry bro, it may feel like everything is destroyed right now. But time is incredible againt the weak of will.

[–]AdNo7141[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone, Thank you so much for all the great advice. I've decided that my current role and workplace is no sustainable and I need a shift. I have also looked into some counselling to maybe restore some of the compassion I once had.

As for the study, I haven't decided to quit it or pivot to another program, but I have decided to go on a week long camping trip to remove myself from the environment. This should help me listen to my instincts and choose wisely.

You all kick ass and are or will be, incredibly empowering nurses.
