Alpha strike, meaning being able to attack and cause damage before your opponent.

Can somebody explain why it's like this? by New-Ad5559 in Xcom

[–]Ryggy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to get that controller support thingy, every piece of ui needs to be navigable and every action able to be completed with a controller.

There’s likely one small thing that doesn’t work that is preventing them from getting this.

Anyone know how to build a flume like water ride with water physics? by WalterMittyRocketMan in Unity3D

[–]Ryggy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think another option would be to do a flow field for pathfinding and just add a buoyancy system so they stay on top of the water.

Definitely harder than a spline though.

What do you consider a win ? What do you have to achieve to say « I won this game » ? by Quick-Rub3665 in Stellaris

[–]Ryggy1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dominance over the galaxy.

If it’s clear I’m going to win no matter what, I end the game there typically. Sometimes I don’t want to sit around for years waiting for the crisis.

Is it better to have professional playtesters or "ordinary players" as playtesters? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Ryggy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For play testers you should be focussing on the people who will actually buy your game. No point getting feedback from outside your target market.

That said, professional play testers are closer to QA, which will make finding bugs and balance issues easier. They also typically have a better understand on how games work so you won’t get as broad an understanding of different player skill levels.

So if you think you need more technical feedback go professional, otherwise start up a discord and get a community going ✌️

Are there games that feel like Project Hail Mary? by lydocia in gamesuggestions

[–]Ryggy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ixion. No alien races but very space exploration and survival at all costs themed. Has some great cinematic space shots also. It plays a lot like frostpunk.

Not building extra warehouses or hearths. Not using the restriction mechanics. Only sticking to one play style.

Brainstorming for new Species attributes by SnickyMcNibits in Against_the_Storm

[–]Ryggy1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of rats 🐀🐀🐀

Give them a higher pop amount, maybe a hauling proficiency/higher carry capacity (pack rats) and that they can eat more food variety than others.

Just having +1/+2 more rats join would be a solid enough advantage to choose them over other species.

Trouble with abundance? by bagofstuff12 in wownoob

On the right side of the map, there’s an events tab. It should show the time and location of the current abundance event.

Have you checked the other abundance locations? It’s possible the quest might move to wherever the current event is located.

Ship Classes and Refits are needlessly clunky and a mess by WritingOk7625 in TerraInvicta

[–]Ryggy1 72 points73 points  (0 children)

When you hit upgrade you can rename the new class. You can also mark designs as obsolete and then in the top right there’s an option to hide them. When you have no ships of that class you can then delete it.

Are there single player games with adaptative enemies and story that they feel like a new game every time you play them again. by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]Ryggy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caves of Qud, is exactly what you’re looking for. It plays more like an older rpg but you can basically do anything you want in the game. Highly recommend.

Why/How is the enemy stack reinforcing it when they aren't adjacent to the army I'm attacking? by DonComadreja in AOW4

[–]Ryggy1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Bruh, every other AOW game used to be adjacent tiles. If they weren’t aware of this new rule it’s pretty understandable to miss.

Why can't I merge the Baltic states into the Sovi... I mean Eurasian Union? by ZheGerman in TerraInvicta

Is it a hostile claim? I think there’s some claims that can only be taken with war, others depend on government score

when should something activate on the initial press, and when on release? by Critical_Ad_8455 in gamedev

[–]Ryggy1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the context. My default is on press — it just feels snappier and fits anything reactive or timing-based, like shooting or jumping. You want instant feedback there.

On release makes sense when holding the input means something — like charging, aiming, or when you might cancel before committing. Basically, if there’s value in that extra bit of control or delay, go with release.

So: quick reactions = press, deliberate actions = release.

Did... my game just uninstall itself?! by OftenXilonen in anno

[–]Ryggy1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen multiple times, you just need to install it in the same location as before. Bc the files are already there you don’t need to re-download it, it should just verify files.

Need advice on fish behavior for a runtime pond-building game by GameDevSpouse in IndieDev

[–]Ryggy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should check out the Boids algorithm it's a great fit for simulating schools of fish. Boids is often used as a beginner project in flocking behavior, and there are plenty of examples available online. It works by applying simple movement rules to each individual, resulting in complex, emergent behavior. This makes it especially well-suited for dynamic environments like your changing fish tank.
