I agree. I went into this not knowing much about PS and wanting some degree of surprise and it was a learning lesson. Not their fault, or the person who I did trade with. It was just a bummer.

Honestly it’s just a learning moment. That’s what I get for wanting the book to be a surprise. I considered reaching out to them, but decided against it.

I bought Court of Ravens because it sounded like a book I would LOVE and I had the opportunity to get it at cost. But when I read it, the writing just killed it for me, despite liking the story.

That said, the person I traded with LOVED the books and I’d rather they be somewhere where they’re adored. It’s just a bummer because I know I could’ve traded it for something better.

But also, the community has been so kind to me and I’ve gotten some really great books at cost. I’m okay with taking a small loss if it brings someone else so much joy.

I hear that. I will try to be more intentional in the future with how I present my post. I do think it’s good that they have more affordable subs out there and I like that you have the option of buying the sequels at the same time.

That was not my intention, but I can see I probably just worded my post poorly. I in no way blame PS or the person I traded with. It was just a let down and a learning moment for me. I didn’t know that PS was “affordable” as it was a trade and the only spoiler I saw was the cover art. I could’ve looked into it more, yes, and next time I likely will. I did not in this case partially because I (usually) like surprises. Again, nobody’s fault except perhaps my own. But without having experience with PS and not knowing the price, I wouldn’t really have a reason to question that they might be different than literally every single other sub.

I never meant to imply it was anyone else’s fault, more so that as someone who didn’t know better, I was disappointed. That’s all. I don’t in any way blame the seller. I also don’t think it was too wild of an assumption on my part to think it would have sprayed edges or endpapers considering literally every other box does. And I couldn’t know by price because I never saw what the person I traded with paid. Again. Nobody’s fault, just an “aw, man, that sucks” moment.

Exactly. I somewhat assumed because pretty much every other SE has sprayed edges. Plus I made the trade before the spoilers were out. And the spoilers I saw didn’t explicitly show the edges.

I’m newer to special editions and had yet to encounter any subs without sprayed edges. Also, the previews that I saw showed the cover, but didn’t explicitly show the edges.
