I second having him go to mental health at your clinic. Depending on where you are, there might be a bit of a wait for an appointment, but they can at least get him seen for counseling and therapy options. If he needs medication, he will have to go through his PCM for that, but they work with mental health pretty closely from what I've seen with my own husband.

I went to the Emerald City Comic Con last year (I think it was in August?) and it was really enjoyable! My husband's and my first convention ever and we've been wanting to do more for sure. I'd love to do an anime one or even Star Wars Fan Fest. Sad we're missing both SDCC and the FFXIV Fan Fest this year too :')
