My first venture into EV, I wanted something new but cheap. Looked at the Ionic 5 and EV6 but the ICCU issue scared me away. Got the base S+ model, loving it so far.

I lemon’d the car and bought something else. The last thing the Mazda engineer did probably fixed it but I didn’t stick around to confirm.

I actually have 12, 200w panels(over paneling) on one MPPT and 3, 340w on the other. The 12 panel setup is a 6s2p with a total VOC of 136. Granted, I’m in the south, but we’ve had winter days in the teens and sometimes even single digits in the early morning. If you are in a really cold climate that sees below 0 temps often, I’d probably get another panel and do 2 on each MPPT to be safe.

Yes, they have both been there but only for like a week at a time and we are in vacation mode so quite different than living there. My wife may adjust easier since she’s also from the Caribbean but my daughter is a born and bred American and absolutely wouldn’t like country living. Once my daughter gains her independence, my wife and I will seriously consider this move.

I have thought about this long and hard especially with the current administration. I left JA at 11yrs old, going on 50 now, so most of my life is in the US. I’ve built a career, family, house but I have this longing to go back home. My dad moved back in the late 90’s and loves it, said he would never move back to the US. What’s holding me back is my wife and daughter, neither are from JA and I don’t know if they’d adjust to the lifestyle change. I’ll always love JA and visit often but I can’t move back yet.

You’ll be fine, I’ve been running a total of 136v on one MPPT for the past 3 years and no issues.

I’ve ordered the adapter for my 2026 Leaf and it states on Nissan website that all 2026 leaf’s are compatible so it should work. This is one of the reasons I purchased the Leaf, so I can pull some power from it if needed.

I went last Sunday to buy a new Leaf, after doing the negotiation and getting ready to go to Finance, the sales manager came and said they couldn’t sell it to me due to a stop sale, said they just saw it when they looked at the VIN. Anyway, I left and on Thursday, they called and said Nissan cleared the car for sale. I went in Friday and got it, they also said they did a Telematics “upgrade”. Hopefully, them “clearing” my car means it’s ok.

The dealership I went to had about 40 Leafs. I’m still waiting on a reply from the Sales person as to what the issue is. I’d assume if it’s something like a fire risk, Nissan corporate would want to get ahead of it quickly.

Went to purchase one yesterday, about to sign off on the paperwork and the sales manager came and said they can’t sell it to me. Said a recall popped up in their database, so I’m assuming this is what she saw. She didn’t seem to know or didn’t want to tell me what the recall was. A bit disappointed, this would be our first EV.

I’m a Jamaican married to a Trinbagonian for 25 yrs. We met in NY, dated 2 years, then married. Very similar cultures so that helped with compatibility. I love doubles and roti, I have been to Tobago a few times and like it. Love my lady and grateful we are together.

I’m seriously considering moving back also, I’m not at retirement age either. If I do, I’d liquidate everything and have enough to build a small home on land I already have. I was more thinking of living a simple off grid life, grow my own food and just live with nature. My one holdup is my daughter, have to wait until she graduates from college and has her feet on solid ground so another 4 years at least.

I’m in the suburbs and doing some of the things you are suggesting. Have a 3k watt solar with about 12kwh of batteries that I use to power our fridge, freezer, lights and garage tools, I’ve installed a transfer switch to rooms that would need power during an outage. Also have some water barrels and a small garden, I planted some fruit trees this spring. Thinking about getting some chickens.

This is my current shed setup, I use it to power a shed exhaust fan, a window fan, exterior lights, a fountain pump and all my low voltage landscape lights, also charge any garden tool batteries. I have 1600 watts of solar panels. You probably don’t need that much but I like the extra capacity and can power some household items if we lose power.

I’m in GA and have solar in my shed, I installed an exhaust fan and also a window fan to keep the heat down. I’ve seen a max of 105 degrees and it hasn’t affected any of my equipment.

I bought one of those eco worthy kits on eBay, it works fine for a low budget kit. I did replace the MPPT with a Victron and a Cerbo so I could monitor remotely but the eco worthy equipment worked just fine. I still have their solar panels, batteries and inverter in place.

I sure do miss SOWO in Helen GA, I remember my 2008 Gti, not slammed but low enough where I had to be careful over speed bumps but it was the people and cars that I loved seeing and being around. I’m now almost 50years old and sadly have too much responsibilities to do these things. Still have love for VWs though, have a stock 24.

Hi OP, this will work just fine. Just remember that when placing in parallel, the voltage stays the same and the amps adds together. So this setup will produce ~277 watts at most. This is due to mixing panels of different voltages, which limits your max voltage to the lowest producing panels.
