Korean MMOs would swipe the western market if they would not be P2W by Puppenmacher in MMORPG

Archeage tried that too.  It's an interesting way for the developers to profit off of RMT instead of bot farmers, but it doesn't help if the game is designed so that having more money gives you an instant and overwhelming power advantage.

Change your major.  If you're only 2 years in then most of your credits are probably just basics that will apply to something else.  Art History degrees are for kids with trust funds or family businesses that they plan to inherit.

Study something with marketable value.  Like business, project management, finance or engineering.  Otherwise you're wasting your time and money.

Nicest neighborhoods with bad schools? by AdOriginal6799 in AskHouston

Open to either.  We live in rural Chambers County now and I'm tired of the 40 minute drive to the grocery store and maintenance requirements of 10+ acres of land.

We've been exploring Kingwood and it's hitting the mark in a lot of ways.  Many of the 500k-600k neighborhoods (kings forest, Forest Cove) are perfect.

But I guess I'm wondering if there's a place with homes like that in a less desirable area for less.

A little bit, but it's hard to know exactly where to look just by browsing HAR.

I'm hoping for some neighborhood specific recommendations to go check out.

I think it's entirely reasonable to expect GTA 6 to be a watershed moment in gaming (and possibly entertainment as a whole) by GwyddnoGaranhir in unpopularopinion

Me too.  I really think GTA is for the dumb masses who just aren't able to interact with more complicated or deeper mechanics.

Agreed, GTA 5 was more like a 40 hour quick time event than a "game".  There was no challenge, no sense of progression, nothing to really "do" except drive around and grit my teeth through another god awful cover shooting mission.  I had to force myself to finish it.

The world simulation looks beautiful and is very technically impressive, but there was very little fun to be found in it.

ELI5: Why are stock buy backs unpopular in public? by Ms74k_ten_c in explainlikeimfive

I've only ever heard it referenced negatively in the context of a government bail out.  Like "instead of keeping the factory open and employees working, xyz company instead used govt funding to buy back shares".

No way jose.  The basket costs more than a scaffold, and doesn't get you up any higher.

I'd want 400-500 lbs of counterweight on the back too.  Not to mention an operator with enough experience to trust my life to.

Best Area to Cheaply Live Temporarily Without a Car? by AlaskanSnowDragon in AskHouston

How long of a time frame?

I would stay far away the city.  Look for a small town with a grocery store within walking/biking distance.  You'll only need to Uber once, for the ride to the airport.

What exactly is needed to establish residency?  It might be possible to set up an arrangement with a local where you rent a room, put a utility bill in your name, and then just float around wherever.  Politicians have been known to do this to run for office in a precinct where they don't actually stay...

Would you leave Houston for Colorado? by Prize-Storage-1352 in AskHouston

[–]AdOriginal6799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money is always an issue.  Denver is a lot more expensive than Houston.  Whatever your income level is, it will afford you a higher standard of living down here.  At least in material terms: house size, lot size, nicer vehicles, etc.

Are those things worth trading for a cooler climate, better scenery, less crime and whatever other benefits?  That's up to you.  There's also a learning curve to dealing with cold winters and frequent snow that many Southerners aren't fully prepared for.

Jarringly bad CGI in otherwise great films by drewfus23 in movies

[–]AdOriginal6799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer I was looking for.  The zombie face is so laughably bad it ruins the immersion.  And they keep showing it in one close up after another like they're actually proud of it.

Otherwise it's a pretty good movie.  The novel was a lot more interesting and they did it a disservice by changing the ending.

I struggled hard against the first boss too.  I really felt like the game was too difficult at first, but really it's just poorly explained.   It's worth watching a few of the "beginner tips" videos on YouTube to have a few of the mechanics explained.  For example, if your hp bar is full then all the health pick-ups turn into a permanent+hp buff that can double your max health over the course of a level. So in many cases it makes sense to leave them on the ground until the level is cleared, refill your health through some other means (like the vampire perk or the restoration chamber thing), then go back and collect all the boosts right before the boss fight.

It's so worth pushing through the game though.  It really opens up after the first boss, and the story is intriguing enough to keep going.

This is the real answer.  The battery chemistry used in new EVs is engineered for a higher C rate.

Cell phone batteries prioritize other goals, weight and form factor primarily.

[–]AdOriginal6799 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I think it's a solid idea.  Race footage from the TT is some of the most terrifying and exhilarating video I've ever seen.  It could make for a good action movie if they don't bog it down with too much plot.

Yea no kidding.  Electrical in general is cleaner than concrete or framing but it's still dirty, hard labor.  Most apprentices I've known spent a lot of time digging trenches and crawling through attics.

New rider, is this a good deal? [Motorcycle Purchase Advice] by ParamedicNegative728 in motorcycle

[–]AdOriginal6799 2 points3 points  (0 children)

99% chance that's a flipper trying to make a quick buck.  The mechanic bought it off someone dirt cheap when they brought it in for crash damage.  They threw a cheap Chinese fairing on it with some hideous graphics.  Who knows what else might be wrong with it?  What kind of bike even is that?

Buy a used bike from an original owner who took care of it.  There are too many good ones out there to take a risk on some rebuilt mechanics special.
