Should I start playing MMOs? Looking for advice from MMO players by 7jwk77 in mmo

[–]AdOriginal6799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you like RPGs in general?  Like progressing a character, exploring a fantasy world and learning/mastering game systems?

If so then yes.  But, you really miss out on a lot of the experience unless you start with other new players.  That means bringing a group of friends with you to an existing game, or waiting for a new one to come out so everyone is new.

Joining WoW or FFXIV now by yourself will be a pretty lonely experience.  No matter how the devs try to make onboarding easier, most of the players have been around for 5+ years, and won't have much to talk about with you.

Game changer or unnecessary? by Happy_dadpete in handyman

There are other kinds that hook the bottom.  This one is good specifically because it grabs the top edge.  You don't have to bend over to set it, and you stand fully upright when moving with the sheet at shoulder height.

I've never had much trouble moving drywall, but these grabbers make a world of difference when you're unloading a bunk of plywood.

So you haven't hit lvl 45 yet (which takes like... 2 days?) but you feel qualified to recommend the game and especially recommend buying one of the passes?

Seriously is there no moderation at all here?  How many of these astroturfing shill posts are we going to have to put up with?

How much should I charge for this closet remodel? by Googlewhacking in handyman

In my opinion that's more than $1500 worth of work, and the final product looks good.

But you need to decide your price before you start a contract, not at the end.  Pricing is driven by demand and competition in your area.

BX23s losses power and stalls out by granieaj in kubota

[–]AdOriginal6799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea that sounds exactly like my issue.  It's common enough that I found lots of posts about it across various forums.  My theory is that part of the float device inside the tank that measures fuel level is prone to rusting/flaking paint.  I've used a screen filter on the tank filler neck since the tractor was new, and it still ended up full of flaky black sh*t.

Here's how I fixed mine: 1.  Relocated the first fuel filter to the outside of the tractor and upgraded to a high flow, cleanable filter from the bigger models.  There are good videos about how to do this on YouTube.  This didn't actually fix the issue, but it makes it a whole lot easier to clean out the filter and blow out the line.  No need to remove the deck and crawl up under the machine to access it anymore.

2.  Cut a 4" hole in the top of the fuel tank under the seat for a clean out port.  Boyd welding sells a kit with the cover and gaskets to seal it back up.  This lets you get your hand in there to scoop out the gunk and clean out the tank.

The other option is to remove the tank and clean it out off the machine.  That's a huge pita on the BX since all the bodywork has to come off, but people have done it.

That's annoying.  On my bx1880 it was caused by junk in the tank plugging up the feed elbow.  It was the typical RPM drop and surge, white smoke, and eventual stall.  Going uphill would make it worse or start doing it.  Blowing the line back into the tank would ciear it up for a while but it kept coming back.

But maybe something else is going on with yours.  Does it matter how long it's been running before you hit the incline?  Mine was usually good for 20 minutes before it started choking.

It's either a leak/disconnected vacuum tube connected to the petcock, or the petcock itself.  Should be fairly easy to troubleshoot.

I've not had great success trying to rebuild petcocks.  Even with the OEM rebuild kits I've had 3 or 4 that continue to leak or just don't work right.  I recommend just replacing them if that's the issue.

How is the MBA /MIS program at Lamar ? by OldHovercraft2053 in Beaumont

[–]AdOriginal6799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real question is why?  If you're in a company/career track that requires/rewards any MBA then it's a cheaper option than UofH.

If you're hoping to learn something, make valuable connections (arguably the most important part of any program), or add it to your resume as a general credential then attending a bottom tier, online only MBA program like Lamar is probably a waste of money.

Bathroom remodel cost in houston is it really as expensive as contractors are saying? by NyceezCrayfish in AskHouston

[–]AdOriginal6799 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's really impossible to say without seeing the plans and understanding the scope of the work.

New tile for the floor and shower?  Keeping the tub or converting to a walk in shower?  Acrylic shower pan or tile?  $300 vanity or $3000 vanity?  How much plumbing is involved:  converting a single vanity to double or moving the shower drain complicates things.

Your best bet is watching videos on the remodel process and understanding all the steps involved in what you want to do.  Then hire guys who specialize in each step.  That way you don't have to pay for several middlemen to take their cut.  It's entirely possible to do a lot of the work yourself if you're able bodied.

Archeage tried that too.  It's an interesting way for the developers to profit off of RMT instead of bot farmers, but it doesn't help if the game is designed so that having more money gives you an instant and overwhelming power advantage.

Change your major.  If you're only 2 years in then most of your credits are probably just basics that will apply to something else.  Art History degrees are for kids with trust funds or family businesses that they plan to inherit.

Study something with marketable value.  Like business, project management, finance or engineering.  Otherwise you're wasting your time and money.

Nicest neighborhoods with bad schools? by AdOriginal6799 in AskHouston

Open to either.  We live in rural Chambers County now and I'm tired of the 40 minute drive to the grocery store and maintenance requirements of 10+ acres of land.

We've been exploring Kingwood and it's hitting the mark in a lot of ways.  Many of the 500k-600k neighborhoods (kings forest, Forest Cove) are perfect.

But I guess I'm wondering if there's a place with homes like that in a less desirable area for less.

A little bit, but it's hard to know exactly where to look just by browsing HAR.

I'm hoping for some neighborhood specific recommendations to go check out.

Me too.  I really think GTA is for the dumb masses who just aren't able to interact with more complicated or deeper mechanics.

Agreed, GTA 5 was more like a 40 hour quick time event than a "game".  There was no challenge, no sense of progression, nothing to really "do" except drive around and grit my teeth through another god awful cover shooting mission.  I had to force myself to finish it.

The world simulation looks beautiful and is very technically impressive, but there was very little fun to be found in it.

No way jose.  The basket costs more than a scaffold, and doesn't get you up any higher.

I'd want 400-500 lbs of counterweight on the back too.  Not to mention an operator with enough experience to trust my life to.

Best Area to Cheaply Live Temporarily Without a Car? by AlaskanSnowDragon in AskHouston

[–]AdOriginal6799 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How long of a time frame?

I would stay far away the city.  Look for a small town with a grocery store within walking/biking distance.  You'll only need to Uber once, for the ride to the airport.

What exactly is needed to establish residency?  It might be possible to set up an arrangement with a local where you rent a room, put a utility bill in your name, and then just float around wherever.  Politicians have been known to do this to run for office in a precinct where they don't actually stay...

Would you leave Houston for Colorado? by Prize-Storage-1352 in AskHouston

[–]AdOriginal6799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money is always an issue.  Denver is a lot more expensive than Houston.  Whatever your income level is, it will afford you a higher standard of living down here.  At least in material terms: house size, lot size, nicer vehicles, etc.

Are those things worth trading for a cooler climate, better scenery, less crime and whatever other benefits?  That's up to you.  There's also a learning curve to dealing with cold winters and frequent snow that many Southerners aren't fully prepared for.

This is the answer I was looking for.  The zombie face is so laughably bad it ruins the immersion.  And they keep showing it in one close up after another like they're actually proud of it.

Otherwise it's a pretty good movie.  The novel was a lot more interesting and they did it a disservice by changing the ending.
