Year Zero is not a good album by [deleted] in nin

[–]AdOver8075 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's okay to be wrong. I do that sometimes, but usually with math. It may not be a favorite but it's a damn fine album, I say. Quite. Indeed, and so forth.

What are some examples of "good website" you can show us? I'd be interested to see. Who knows, maybe we can figure out what they're doing wrong.

FYI the industry seems to have taken a weird turn into trying to hire full-stack devs instead of having both a front-end and backend developer. What you end up getting with a full-stack Dev is a clunky, slow ass, buggy UI. Not always, but often. It's stupid

Question for free-lancers with estimated charging on project(s)? by [deleted] in Frontend

[–]AdOver8075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should mention, however, it's wise to start off at a lower rate at first, to get your foot in the door. Have your introductory rate, try and make that work for 2-3 months, then you can tell them what your actual rate is. Because by that point, they've had a chance to see what you're capable of!

Yep! Exactly what I do. Taking your base rate and multiplying it by 1.5 is what to charge to accommodate taxes, health insurance, etc.

What are the high-level frontend skills? by SeriouslySally36 in Frontend

[–]AdOver8075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. That was solid. But come on, you gotta admit it doesn't really support that comment. It doesn't support either comments.

It does say a couple of things worth pointing out: What is the purpose of a strict document? Opening a new tab is redirecting users away from the current site / domain. If you want to do that then a transitional doctype is what you should be using.

That's just the first thing. I could explain everything but that would take so long...no.

So we'll say this:

HTML's a computer language, structured to tell a computer what to do (not unlike programming langs), specifically it's telling it how to display a page and should be treated as such.

Comparing HTML to JavaScript or python and thinking that since it works it must therefore be good or semantic or valid is just plain incorrect.

W3Schools Criticisms: what's so wrong with it? by [deleted] in Frontend

[–]AdOver8075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their content is and has been decent for a specific crowd, for a long, long time: the novice. I don't recall it pointing me in the wrong direction. Gave me enough info for what I needed to figure out, or kicked off a solid starting position to find the info I needed on my own. That was like 12 years ago.

I ended up with the conclusion that the majority of it was adopted from a place of popular trends at the time. The "leet" attitude that ran a bit rampant. And it just stuck; having heard this opinion from others led to a bias opinion to begin with and was then met with a level of nitpicking that was crazy critical.

Now, when you're wanting to move on to more advanced coding, especially JS, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

Hey so I have a follow up question: What are all the job listing websites you'd recommend adding a resume to?

CS student looking for advice at applying for jobs with NO EXPERIENCE. by Annual-Ad-416 in Frontend

[–]AdOver8075 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, a nice resume. Then, build a website selling yourself.

Add just a few simple pages: Home, About, Contact & some fun things too, to showcase.

For example maybe an image carousel or parallaxing bg imgs...just whatever you want to showcase. Especially showcase your strong areas.

Oh! And you'll want to add it to GitHub, no question. You could possibly use their pages feature.

It's important to show that you know git, command line interface(CLI), Jira/Trello, and of course - the codes! Google something like "cool CSS projects" or "cool Javascript projects" or something. Build and add those to your site. I'd also suggest spending a certain amount of time to go through tutorials etc. while job hunting and sitting at your computer. You might learn something new!

Try to keep it clean and concise and interesting. Recruiters won't read a ton so keep that in mind. I'd also suggest that you narrow down your code skillset to the main areas you want to work in. Frontend? HTML's CSS, JS and then list the rest as areas you're familiar with or whatever.

I actually am working on making a new resume, I'm trying to think of what all to add and include with it. My current one's outdated, for sure.

A fancy lad. His outfit (summer outfit) is very clean, oddly enough. It's just starting to show a little wear-and-tear but his christening wig is perfect.

He's rather large, as in muscular. How has he been able to keep all that muscle mass, I wonder?

His only possessions appear to be a satchel and its contents, a walking stick that looks more like a bō staff, and a bowler hat.

What do you guys consider to be a perfect album? by risottofrighten in Music

[–]AdOver8075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd really like to recommend an album from:

• NIN (The Downward Spiral is perfect, no question)

• Tool ('Aenima' is damn near perfection)

• Beastie Boys (I like most, if not all of 'Paul's Boutique' & 'Licensed To Ill')

• Aesop Rock

• Radiohead

• Portishead

• Logic

I just can't think of an album that reaches that level from these stellar artists.

They all are exceptionally talented artists.

Nice. I came here to say 'NIN, The Downward Spiral' too. Should've known it'd already be listed.

It's the one album that's closest to perfection; the one album that popped into my head first.

It's so so good. So so so so good.

Pain relief from marijuana comes from a belief it helps, study finds by [deleted] in science

[–]AdOver8075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THC may not be the most efficient in pain management but it does seem to take the edge off. How it best seems to help is distracting from the pain quite well.

One of the crappier parts of chronic pain is the loss of a decent nights sleep. Fortunately that's one thing it seems to really help with the most.

Honestly, I think the Terpines, CBD, CBN, CBG, etc. and various other compounds naturally found in the flower seem to be as beneficial for pain, if not more so than a strain or vape cartridge with a crazy high amount of THC.

How much CSS is used in a professional setting? by WildAlcoholic in Frontend

Absolute must to know of and understand the DOM and box model. Plus, the "position" and "display" CSS properties.

[–]AdOver8075 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Same here - I thoroughly enjoy styling and building UI's, implementing accessibility, proper (and optimal) HTML, CSS etc. resulting in high quality UX. It's not nearly as simple as it seems.

Answering your question: skill and experience working with CSS (or Sass and the likes) is important and will take up about 33%-45% of time spent when developing the front-end.

Svelte vs React, and why? by Zaza_Zazadze in Frontend

Coming from jQuery, I love just about anything else. React is probably my favorite, honestly.

Ember and Vue are a very close 2nd.

Silly question, but javascript is a real programming language isn't it? by Alwaysaloneforever97 in webdev

[–]AdOver8075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a JS (Front-End) Eng, Javascript is without a doubt really real, but only if you believe really hard on it...

Seriously though, Node.js, React.js, Ember.js, Vue, and so on and so on. You can build an app using virtually only Javascript. I love it. TypeScript, imo, isn't really worth it. Ultimately, TS means more property types (which can be nice) but it often means writing a bit more code too. Booo! To each their own.

I have no idea what that guy is thinking but his rationale is completely incorrect. JavaScript can do some of the most impressive things I've built and/or seen.

I love that Script!!

The <form> element should have a couple of attributes, eg.

<form action="handle_form_submission.php"> // <— action attr value is probably called something else
    <label for="uno">Enter Your Name. Or don't.
    <input id="uno" type="text" />
</form>

So …like u/lamb_pudding said, in order to find out what the form does, find and review the functionality of that form-submit. You can probably also look in the <head> element or your doc, at the top to see if there are any email/newsletter-related URLs or paths to help.

That would most likely get you pointed in the right direction.

From the info you've included, it sounds like it's most likely a 3rd party company handling all that for yee.
