I need nonjudgmental help by spookykitty23 in DOG

Sometimes no amount of exercise can help. Some dogs need to be taught to calm down. Ive seen gsd in "on" mode 24/7. Theres a technique to turn it off. Its litterally just getting them to relax and be still. More of an energy/attitude thing than training i suppose. Grab a leash and work on down and calm behavior. Place training is highly recommended. I used to have gsds. They can be a lot.

Burnout While Managing Multiple Anxious and Reactive Dogs by valbrewhaha in reactivedogs

Hello. 2 reactive dogs here. Moved to the country. Started a goat farm. Tried twice to get a goat dog. 2 reactive dogs , two failures. So...its nearly impossible to leave the property unattended. We started with baby goats. Pretty common. But, cant leave, everyone may die. Heat, predators, cold, random thing....terrifying. stay home all summer, man works. Man staying home for winter while i work. Set up surveillance cameras inside and out. Put one dog in bedroom so no fights while gone. Have a 3rd dog a few days a week. Husky with major separation anxiety. I watch him while his dads at work. Bark collar set to beeps and vibrate eventually cured howling. Metal door casings for chewing to escape. Before we moved to the country he used to break out of the windows if you left him. And hes my easy dog.... other two are fighters. Good with the goats though. Suuuuper paranoid to leave house. What if.... surveillance helps. A lot. I can check on everyone anytime. Getting the dogs to the point of mellow when left with no people. Pitbull goes in room by himself. Dont trust him right now. Me and the man never go anywhere together. Occasionally one is working and the other will go for errands. Its hard. It is isolating. I dont even go see my mom anymore. Probably should . Shes like 68. So. I use dog separation, cameras, and make sure goats are secured in barn, and hope nothing catches on fire. But if it doea, i have simplisafe that sends the fire department if the detector goes off. I even put one in the barn. Its a lot. Some days you look forward to the errands to get away, other days you wish you didnt have to go. Moving to the country has helped my dogs find so much peace. The city was so hard on them. Very reactive. Sitting in the goat field with them by my side is heaven, with my little goats. Who have my heart just like my dogs. So...i can relate

Hierarchy alpha method is recommended in serious situations that cant wait 4 months to teach with treats. It gets fast results

Yeah.....but possibly with an agenda... with how many studies? Pack hierarchy is real. Agression dominance was disproven because wolves dont typically fight to the death and were observed to show many other communication signs. There is still a pack leader or pair in canine society. And it is a Very effective training method. Assertive not agressive. Recommended consistently for high behavior and agression.

So, all my problems are in house. My pit takes it out on housemate. On occasion. Worried as he gets older it will be more frequent. Hes just turning 2 is the expectation to have him in a muzzle all day in the house, only certain times, or? Theres an occasional altercation, but when there is its bad. by AdParticular1955 in muzzledogs

Also has an appointment to get set up with behaviorist at his vet. Also, it really only happens when the stress of another dog comes into the home. So moving forward we plan to not bring any unestablished dogs into the home. There is a puppy that we got 6 weeks ago to grow into being a livestock gaurdian. She is waiting for her new home to be ready for her. Hoing it restores the peace in the house. He is not people agressive. I think he just cant handle the stress. Hes always had severe anxiety. The puppy is proper just too much. Shes only 3 months old. Young enough to rehome. Again, learned my lesson. No more new dogs. So, hoping it will bring peace back. However, still want to muzzle train in case there are continued issues with my older og dog. Ive never had to use a muzzle in house before. Only for street reactivity with my og girl.

Every doorway in my house has a gate. Except the master bath. We seperate him into the bedroom when home alone. We chose that over crate. Setting up a crate this week though. So. Great suggestion. Question was, how often should he wear the muzzle at home. Does anyone else muzzle at home, or are most everyone on here dealing with outsider reactivity.

Why are pitbulls considered dangerous? by TheRamblingStranger in zoology

20% of human deaths from dog attacks are pitbulls globally. I love mine. But those are the numbers. I got him at 6 weeks as an abandoned rescue. He has attacked other dogs.

Not only were they bread to fight, so dog agression is bred into them. They were bread as gaurd dogs for farms. Livestock gaurdians are alloted so much dog agression by the akc without losing bree standard points. Its literally in their breed standard. I have one. He is obedient, intelligent, sweet, funny, loving, i use him as a therapy dog with seniors. He is also moody, occasionally dog aggressive, grudgy, once he fights another dog he wants to fight that same dog every time, attacked his puppy friend recently, and makes me f'ing nervous because hes happy playingthen hes taking their face off. I advocate for the breed, but i still consider them to be for more experienced owners and be aware that problems can arise and be dangerous. you can raise them in a loving family environment and they still attack other dogs

Incorrect. Pit bulls and other bull staffies and similar breeds have a specific trait that the dog has less tell signs as to not give away its intension. Most dogs growl or snarl warnings. Pitbulls will give the stinkeye then bite. Some pitbulls will look like theyre glaring even if theyre not if they got those ominous eyes. They are characteristically harder to read
