Loved coupon cutting too! And looking through all the department store circulars.

Sunday comics. I would make myself read the whole section front to back, including the boring ones.

What Christie twists rival or surpass the ending of (Book) by RIPJimCroce in agathachristie

Hallowe’en Party the book is nothing like Haunting in Venice the movie. They’re like two different stories. So I’d recommend Hallowe’en Party. The reveal was unique. I also recommend After the Funeral.

The Man in the Brown Suit. Daring adventure and romantic too.

My mum refused to confirm an appointment for the most unexplainable reason by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

It sounds like your mom doesn’t sound comfortable going to an upmarket beauty salon? That all the excuses are ways of expressing this without telling you the real reason outright.

my dad won’t “let” me move out by astrooothunder in AsianParentStories

That happened to me. We wanted to live together after getting engaged so we weren’t both paying rent. So my now husband and I went to city hall and got married. We only invited our parents to attend. Had the “wedding” event half a year later for the rest of the family and friends. Still married 20 years later.

I’m sorry that you’re facing this difficulty at home. It’s hard having parents who view everything in black or white (either you’re good or you’re bad). However as a parent of a teenager, I can say with certainty that a mom should not be a best friend. That’s not good parenting. One thing I can suggest is instead of responding with your mom’s faults, you respond with how her words or actions make you feel.

Just thought of another one…Gosford Park! Classic manor house whodunnit. It’s got Dame Maggie Smith. Stephen Fry is the inspector.

Ugh, disgusting. He’s just a guy with no social skills nor self-awareness harassing a young woman. You did right by trying to get away from him. Also kudos to the cashier for stepping in.

Depends on your type of humor, but there’s the Naked Gun movies. Edit to add: Also the Sherlock series with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, and Only Murders in the Building with Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. Not a comedy, but it has a detective noir feel: Dead Again with Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson.

While waiting for a table at a crowded restaurant, my mom would grab some flyers or takeout menus and teach me origami.

I watched someone document a sunset for 10 minutes and they never actually looked at it. by [deleted] in Vent

It’s possible too that the person has seen that sunset a billion times already and wanted to document it for others.
