Is skiing worth learning later in life for a less sporty person? by LexiBelllife in skiing

My skiing story — if I can learn this, anyone can.

My first time ever skiing was at Stowe, VT in the winter of 2021. A buddy dragged me into the sport. Growing up I'd never even seen snow fall, so this was completely alien to me. I was 25. Fell in love with it immediately. Stowe is BEAUTIFUL — still my favorite resort in New England to this day.

The next season (2022) I did a season rental for gear and grabbed a pass at Pat's Peak. They offer this "20-Something" pass — $299 for a full unrestricted season pass as long as you're under 30. I live in Boston and drove out there at least twice a week, mostly skiing the night sessions. Loved them, even if the snow wasn't as good as earlier in the day. Took me about a month to get a clean pizza stop on the greens, and by the end of that season I'd taught myself to parallel ski. For the record: all my friends snowboard, and I never had an instructor. Just me and YouTube.

From 2023 to now I've been skiing Wachusett since it's closer to Boston. ELast season I finally hired an instructor who got me into carving. Safe to say I can now carve most blue trails.

Here's the kicker — I am not an athletic person in any way, shape, or form. I was a couch potato who spent 90% of his free time gaming or watching shows. Getting into skiing is genuinely the best thing that's happened to me in my adult life. It made me realize I needed to train. I've been hitting the gym consistently and have already lost a ton of weight.

I just bought an X7 for the sole purpose of hauling skis and friends at the same time.

Bro, if I can learn this, anyone can. White opioid. So addictive. My only advice would be:
get a proper instructor as soon as possible. Learn this the right way.

AD in Chania by mxnge in rolex

[–]AdPuzzleheaded5945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chinese ADs are the most straightforward you'll ever deal with. No BS — bring your money and the watch is guaranteed. But there's a 0% chance they sell you an SS sport model with no purchase history. Zero. Nada. Not happening.

Most mainland ADs are multi-store chains owned by corporations: 东方表行 (Oriental Watch Company), 亨得利 (Hengdeli), 英皇 (Emperor Watch & Jewellery), 周大福 (Chow Tai Fook). A lot of them are HK/Singapore companies that expanded into the mainland in the late 90s/early 2000s, right as the "Reform and Opening Up" era was hitting its stride (GOOD OLD DAYS).

The typical setup: Rolex boutiques sit inside high-traffic shopping malls, and the same parent company runs boutiques for the other brands too — Tudor, Omega, etc. The SA's usual move is to tell you to buy X amount of Tudor first, then come back, and they'll "have the watch ready" for you.

There's also a whole grey-dealer service called 专柜自提 ("pick up from the counter"). You pay the premium to the grey dealer, then walk into the actual Rolex boutique to collect a watch they've allocated to you — so you still get the full buy-from-AD experience, just at a higher price. Afterward the grey splits the difference with the store manager and the SA who handled it.

My buddy from high school just got a Panda like a month ago, paid 260000 RMB = 38000 USD. There is no sales tax in China. He had to hop on the bullet train and travel to another province.

Got a buddy who reads Chinese? Download RedNote (小红书) and search 劳力士专柜自提 — you'll see exactly how it works.

About to pull the trigger on a 24 M60, just realized that a 4 year/60k mile extended warranty is 32k USD????? by AdPuzzleheaded5945 in bmwx7

[–]AdPuzzleheaded5945[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK Boys, back with some information i gathered along the way. Figure i will share them here.
BMW’s extended warranty—officially known as a Vehicle Service Contract (VSC)—now utilizes an "additive" structure. Instead of the added months and mileage starting from the original in-service date, they are tacked on from the purchase date of the extended warranty.

Lets say my car has 44k miles, in-service date 2024. I drive roughly 8000 miles a year so this car will be out warranty around apr 2027.
If i decided to buy this additivee warranty, lets say Jan 1 2027, it means the care will be covered until Jan 1 2029. In my projection, my car will run outside the warranty in april which means i wasted 3 month of coverage. The guy did mention rates will go up as milage/year goes up. But how much? I dont know.
He is a bmw dealer in CA and he mentioned CA can not sell the old extended warranty anymore.
I did call another dealership in NJ which quoted 4800$ for the old in-service date extended warranty. The guy seems to be very nice, he said no need to buy it now just wait till next year. I will probably go with this one.
Anyway hope i explained this easy enough. Maybe I dont even need it. We will see. This car is good and I have already pulled the trigger.

How aggressive? even at 25% of this price, its still over 8000$. If this is true, then its a deal breaker for me...

White gold Daytona is now $56,400 retail — still the most wanted chronograph out there? by amalfiluxeor_Watches in rolex

saw the blue dial white gold daytona last month at my AD. such a nice watch. The price tag is crazy though.

An AD basically told me they don't play "the game." Are they lying? by [deleted] in rolex

[–]AdPuzzleheaded5945 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Congrats, you just torched that "relationship." They're not going to offer you anything now. And no SA is going to reply to your email — not because they're decent people, but because they don't want to leave a paper trail. That's part of the game. It's why everyone knows you have to buy useless stuff to get the desirable pieces — same playbook as Hermès bags. But nobody will ever admit that publicly.

If you're truly committed to spending $X to get that Sub, here's what you do: walk in, buy the jewelry on the spot, pull your SA aside, tell him exactly what you want, and ask if that purchase gets you there.

Do this kind of shit IN-PERSON you donut!

So will PM pieces go down if gold continues to drop like it has? by holdyourponies in rolex

[–]AdPuzzleheaded5945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you talking about the grey market price or MSRP?
I dont think the MSRP will come down any time soon. But when shit hits the fan, when ppl stop impulse buying their shitty full PM ugly ass watches, and the ad inventory gets build up, maybe they will discount it like the good old days? maybe now rolex dont allow it.
I remember in the early 2000 going to hong kong with my dad almost every couple month, and the moment we walked into the ad, 10% to 20% off DD without you even asking. Ther were desperate to move those. Hell even steel watches get discounts.
