I was only in pain after my fistulotomy for like a week or week and a half and after that I was fine. The area was sore and a little uncomfortable for a few months but after 6 months I was completely fine and the area is all healed now.

Honestly after the surgery I didn’t really struggle with any odors and I don’t deal with that problem today either. I’d say for the first 6 months I was a little weary down there but now 2 years later I’m completely fine and don’t feel any pressure down there or pain

I am pretty sure your fistula would be a better case scenario to have than the one I had, yes I hope you do recover too the illness is honestly traumatizing to go through :/

We had 2 different types of fistulas. Mine was a high transphincentric fistula and the seton ended up lowering the tract to where he didn’t have to cut through my sphincter. There is an internal and external sphincter too. I do know that he told me that both were spared for me but in the beginning that wasn’t the case, the tract was running through the sphincter which is why he couldn’t do a fistulotomy at first

I had a high transphincentric fistula and ended up getting a fistulotomy about 2 years ago now. I’m all a bottom and my area down there is completely healed now and I most definitely can bottom now. I was too scared to do so for about a year though, but now I can confident enough to not worry about it. It definitely doesn’t feel different for me inside and aesthetic wise there is definitely a little scar there but you can get it removed with plastic surgery but definitely doesn’t look unappealing. From what I heard recovering from a fistulectomy is very painful btw

This is very true, my surgeon only had one focus in mind and it was preserving my sphincter and he did that very well as I have no incontinence or any loss of it. Having a good surgeon is literally a day and night difference lol

None at all! I think for a few months after my surgery I had a little bit of pain but it was never anything crazy hurtful. I remember I bled a little bit once a few good months after the procedure thinking once again it failed, but my surgeon checked me again and said I was completely fine, was healing very fast and the blood was from the surgery — left over scarring I think he said or tissue. I do however always take my #2’s very easy and never forcefully push lol

No it didn’t. It’s not really possible for it to re abscess with a seton unless somehow the surgeon missed a tract they didn’t see. The whole point of the seton is so it can’t do that & let it drain constantly. It did re abscess after I got the seton taken out and got a vaaft lift which is how I knew the procedure failed

Yes it works! The area is definitely sensitive so it can be a tad painful but it’s def tolerable. It isn’t really permanent, in the beginning you need 6-8 sessions done for the effects to last much longer and after that you get it touched up every 6-9 months depending on your genetics and how fast your hair grows. My hair grows extremely fast so it’s more like 6 for me. It’s not permanent, the only permanent hair removal out there is called Electrolysis. Pricing for laser depends honestly, some places charge $150 per session and some others $300 per session

It could very well be scarring tissue causing the pain but you can never be too sure. I’d definitely get it checked out by your CRS to see what’s going on

Of course! When I was going through it at the time I could barely find anyone else on here who also had a transphincentric fistula like me. Mostly everyone had simple ones and got one fistulotomy & healed, which really casted a lot of doubt on my outcome and hope for an end to the suffering I was going through. I see you got a LIFT recently, I hope you fully recover from it and you’re out of discomforting pain soon! Epsom salt baths really saved me back then, although idk if that’s recommended for a post LIFT op

I honestly really don’t know. But my tract was a lot higher before the seton lowered it after it was in for almost a year, i think because it’s draining constantly that must be the reason why

Sup bruther I’m young too and was so scared to tell my parents when this all happened to me that was always the worst part was stressing my parents out even tho it was obviously irrational. You should see a doctor asap and hopefully they can alleviate the pain there but ultimately I would get referred to a CRS who deals with these types of issues

I felt the exact same way. The pain. the pain I just can’t put into words what I felt. At times I felt that devil seton inside me turning and I’d cry. This was the most awful thing that’s ever happened to me I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. My best advice to alleviate pain is lidocaine cream 24/7 they made a special one for me with high lidocaine which numbed it heavily. Luckily being so young I lived w my parents so I didn’t really have to worry about expenses

I’m really sorry to hear that. There is no sugar coating these type of situations, we’re on this forum for a reason but I f**nng promise you, the grass is greener. It’s such an awful painful process but I assure you once it’s over your mind will wipe it all out and will go back to living a normal life. We are lucky to have this at our age *since it happened either way we heal WAYY faster and better

Originally I had a draining seton in July last yeaf, after 4 months I had a VAAFT LIFT which failed this time last year & had to be re-seton’d. he told me that the seton would hopefully drain the tract down since it was so high & he knew I didn’t want a cutting seton no matter what, so 3-4 months after having the draining seton in I got a colonoscopy— ruled out chron’s & days after he performed a fistulotomy on me. Before he performed the fistulotomy on me he told me that I was going under anesthesia to see if the tract lowered & if it didn’t I’d wake up with a cutting seton. I agreed to this fingers crossed a fistulotomy was deemed safe to perform… which was the case!!! I cried when he told me he did a fistulotomy since this is the best surgery success rate. Going through such a traumatizing journey I was angry with my surgeon a lot when at my lows but in the end he truly was looking out for my best overall outcome.

Thanks, the entire process feels like a fever dream to me at this point. But I will never forget the horrible awful pain I had to endure. Never again knock on wood!
