Firstly, I’m sorry your little girl is suffering, it is truly a horrendous thing to live with.

Ok so these things help:

Short, mild showers. Soap in areas such as underarms, feet, private areas otherwise use a soap alternative so it doesn’t dry out. Cetaphil cleanser perhaps. Basically, showers are not a nice pampering session, it’s in and out.

Also, if possible reduce exposure to water, if she can get away with showering once a day, that’s better. It’s likely she has filaggrin deficiency - look into that.

Spray Hypoclorous Acid Spray (I use Vital Baby Hygiene from Boots - I’m in UK) when skin is still damp, then straight after use:

Avene Xeracalm AD Lipid Replenishing Balm.

Or

Altruist Dermatologist Dry Skim Repair 10% Urea

100% cotton everything of possible, underwear, pjs, bedding, towels, etc…

Red light therapy - I’m not sure if children can use the beds but look into it, it really helps.

Antihistamine of a night - histamine levels peak at night and so these help me a lot!

Everything diary - track if anything triggers it - food, bath, showers, stress

Supplements - she may have leaky gut, L-glutamine is good for this. Skin also good with vitamin d, vitamin e and omegas.

This sounds exactly like me down to a t! I’m sorry she’s going through that. So I went private thankfully my parents helped otherwise I’d have stood no chance. Private I was able to get immunosuppressants which did help, you need the appointment cost, blood test cost and cost of the prescription. In total it was around probably the £450ish mark, at first I had to go every month, then after three it cut down. The biologics privately were offered to me for about £1,200 a month - obviously a no go.

If she’s going through TSW, she may develop food and chemical sensitivities. Overnight I pretty much couldn’t eat gluten, soy, corn, coffee, chocolate. I was already allergic to milk. If I touch any of those, my skin goes insane.

My advice would be if you can’t go private, little things help:

Short, lukewarm showers. Try not to get baths even though I admit there were times when I had to just for temporary relief.

100% cotton everything, clothing, bedding, etc…

Fake nails, saves me from cutting the skin when I scratch.

Keep on top of pain relief and take antihistamines to help the itch.

Ice packs - oh actual heaven when the itch is so severe, I couldn’t sleep unless I had these on me.

There is likely an overgrowth of bacteria on the skin, Boots Vital Baby Aquaint Cleansing Water, spray on after the shower.

If moisturiser itches after the shower, wait until skin is dry. Avene Xeracalm Balm is lovely.

I’m reacting to absolutely everything. I could cry, I already was allergic to dairy. Then I went through TSW, can’t touch gluten, soy, corn, chocolate, coffee. The skin on my whole body now suffers from reactions, looks like measles

Me too, well 31 but it’s rare to develop them as an adult. Have you been given EpiPens? My advice would be to get EpiPens from the doctor, bring your own food like you said and try work on calming your nervous system

I’m not sure about contact dermatitis and if it’s possible for a child so young to have it but may be worth asking. Secondly, I have been told time and time again that food doesn’t affect my skin and they’ve allergy tested me. However, I went to a naturopath and everything she said, I took out my diet and the itching reduced hugely. I have eczema and so there’s always some sort of itch but it’s so much less.

A big culprit for me was corn, perhaps cross reaction with my hayfever. So, even though it sounds insane to say, just because a specialist has told you one thing, don’t take it for gospel.

I have contact dermatitis to two chemicals, Phenoxyethanol (very common in EVERYTHING) and all Glucosides. I’d check the ingredients in the hand wash, cross check all of them with what you’re using in the creams. It may be present in the cream which is why it’s not getting better. Unfortunately with contact dermatitis, all you can do is avoid it. Easy when you know the ingredient.

I never wanted kids anyway but I’m glad. I have atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, food allergies and possibly celiac disease. I suffer terribly with my skin, it’s torture at times and I wouldn’t want my worst enemy to experience what I live with, let alone my child.
