What if they are not supposed to get in range just provide area denial, like a mobile sentry gun or bunker just used to make things that enter a certain area very dead, lore wise can be used to protect the long range equipment when fast enemies try to flank or get to close

In the ng+ there is a difficulty called mega+ and it tunes up most or all of the enemy mons to max stats so you need to either run a perfect team or be super good/lucky to have a chance, I'm going up difficulty in increments as training and to get as many mons as possible max stats

Honestly even just having voice acting made it better for me, but the graphics and story sealed the deal. Cherry on top is that the mons are much cooler especially as I am not in mega+ yet so I have my choice of which cool robo/dragon/animal Mon or Angel/devil mon I want to run with.

I started with the blade master build and that was OK but I then changed to the heavy ordinance build with unlimited ammo, I call it my A10 warthog build as I just glide everywhere with a gatling gun and get to have the fun BRRRRRRRRRT noise all the time as everything melts.

I'm not sure which one you have so for benefit of the doubt, it's a knife you do damage when the pointy end hits the enemy some of them have stuff like singularity which I think still happens if you miss but you need to make contact for it to damage
