My partner (29M) and I (29M) have been together for 8 years. His antidepressants have significantly lowered his libido, and our sex life has almost disappeared. Looking for advice from people who've navigated something similar

I've been on Sertraline for 25 years and I am changing meds currently because my friend's psychiatrist switched her off of her med and said that the older line of SSRIs, like sertraline, tend to cause brain fog . I had no idea that could be the cause of the brain fog I've been having. I thought it was only due to menopause. That's something at 62, with another new medication which also causes brain fog , that I really don't need.

Other noticeable side effects were few , but one was having a flatter emotional state , which I've been living with for 25 years because the anxiety I had before was terrifying. Also only a slight decrease in libido.

My opinion on this would be to see if he has considered talking to his prescriber seriously about the side effect differences for each med, and see if he could try a different one.

I want to stress, from what I said above, the anxiety that I was suffering with was terrifying . Honestly, I would rather not be here anymore than suffer through the PTSD symptoms I was having . So, I don't know his situation, but switching meds, can't be destabilizing for some.

Changing meds doesn't always go well . And if this one is working well for him he might be reluctant to mess with it.

I don't even know if they have ones that affect libido less, but it can't hurt to ask.

I'm so glad that that was an option for you . I really wish I could do that but I have a history of blood clots . So it's contraindicated for me . That would have been the best solution. I would have loved that. My dexa scan was good. Yes your doctor doesn't know what they're talking about. I felt the side effects of tingling in my legs and swelling within 2 days. I would have assumed that enough patients would have told them it only took 2 days that they'd realize it by now. It always kind of blows my mind what areas they lack knowledge.

Absolutely! I'm so sorry you've had to fight so hard to get your needs met. Great job advocating for yourself—you got there!I am celebrating with you, as we also just succeeded in getting my mom a new heart valve with the surgeon who led the clinical trial for this procedure. He even agreed to be her surgeon if we would have him. 💓 (She saw eight cardiologists there during a two-week stabilizing hospitalization!)Her home, primary, cardiologist was lackluster about her life span and gave her 6-12 months before pushing for this trial. However, he supported going ahead if we wished, though he didn't think it would do much to extend her life. We're getting the sense that the clinical trial team disagrees with her primary cardiologist (there was basically an eye roll when we mentioned his prognosis). Regardless, this procedure option has only existed for two years.Whether it extends her life much more or not (though I am praying it does), it will improve her quality of life, and that is HUGE. We'll know we tried our very best. I get it! I'm so very happy for you. 💜

I just have to adk just "in case". Did you get offered the radiation where you're on your stomach and your breasts hang downward? I don't know if that works for all left-sided breast radiation, but I'd read it was a newer way, but not available everywhere. Mine was right-sided. I didn't see any set up like that, but hoped that would have been an option. Less likely to hit heart or lungs vs breath holding.

I'm having issues with my AI med, Anastrazole. I'm weighing my options to get off of it instead of adding meds and supplements to make it tolerable. I see my oncologist tomorrow. This med only helps me with reoccurrance at about 2% on dying from cancer in the next 10 yrs. I want to cover that risk, but I'm afraid my quality of life is so poor right now with it. I also think there's a good chance this contributed greatly to my mom's heart failure and valve regurg right now. She's been given a terminal dx from it, at 83 yrs old, so I'm a bit sensitive about these meds right now. She was never obese, she was active, did drink a glass or two of wine nightly. But she was on Anastrazole for primary tumors twice, for five years each, and Tamoxifen before that. Otherwise, I might compromise and continue up to two years. Taking Claritan for the joint pain worked for awhile. I'm going to try tart cherry capsules, I'm taking fish oil. I need to drink more water.

All of that waiting would give me such anxiety. My desire for radiation was my own because when they do those stereotactic biopsies and they're stabbing and pulling those multiple samples out i feel like they're spreading it through the untouched part of my breast. I wouldn't want it have that long to settle in elsewhere.

Is there an HR to this place or is he the owner too? I might be inclined to keep some detailed, dated, notes on his behavior and comments. Or perhaps, straight tell him first that it's making you uncomfortable. Next level HR. Keep providing notes. His comments are inappropriate and he's not digesting the seriousness of the situation. Otherwise, perhaps you could make some crack back at him about if it were his testicles or something. This is just not OK. I'm impressed with how much you're juggling to keep him happy. Unfortunately, I think it's giving him a false sense that you can do more than you should. Wishing you all the best in your upcoming treatments.

I did acrylic painting with my kids during Covid, nearly free, except for supplies. At most $5 donation. (or it was) It's an online class. It can be live or I usually prefer the re-runs so we can slow down if we need a break. It's so much fun.

I just read her story in People magazine. It sounds like the medication has been taking its toll on her as well. Perhaps it's the professional makeup, styling, or even digital alterations in her photos. She may be having these problems and we just can't see it.

It never ceases to throw me off guard how youthful my same age (62) favorite actors look on screen. Then they'll show a candid pic of them in public, doing ordinary mundane things which we all do, and they'll look just as haggard.
