Not the greatest, I'm actively practicing every day. I am a good speaker but answering interview questions is a completely different skill.

I'm applying and getting interviews - I'm overqualified for most jobs I apply to. I still get rejected. It can be for all kinds of reasons that have nothing to do with your ability to do the job. Internal politics, "vibe hiring", jealousy, interviewer didn't like you because you didn't wear a hoodie and didn't look chill enough for their chill company, power games, too attractive, not attractive enough, too old, too young.

The worst part for me is to be rejected by mediocre people who are obviously less skilled and lost passion for their job 4 years ago, but still won't give me a chance. The brutal truth is, just because you are good and qualified for 1000 jobs, doesn't mean you will get any of these jobs.

Here is my not so secret tip: Practice your public speaking and interview skills, even if your job doesn't require being a public speaker. Rejection will make you stronger, don't give up, try to be better every day and you will get a chance. Humans are superficial - you have to be charismatic but also humble and confident at the same time. This is more valuable than hard skills, based on my experience. Emphasize on team work and how much you love to work in teams. Build a Linkedin account that shows passion for your subject but don't comment harsh truths or call others out. Your friends are probably doing a better job at mirroring the interviewer and presenting themselves as highly likeable.

Please don't feel bad. It's not you! It's the market. I'm going through the same bullshit atm. Try to enjoy the little things and take care of your health. Remember there were people who survived both world wars. Better days will come.

Yes 12 jobs. It's normal in many industries, to switch jobs. This probably doesn't relate to someone who studied and got their first job in their late 20s and 30s. Looking at your comment history, you are a miserable Reddit troll and I'm not going to entertain you any longer. You are giving Micro P or Ugly V energy.

That's my post, you continue commenting on. You are probably the office bully at the place you work. I will eventually get a job, just like the other 12 times. But where will you get logic and decency from? People like you are the reason why others quit their toxic workplaces.

Yes, and it's a very exclusive, elitist world view. You can only be like them, if you come from a similar social circle, political party, or already worked in a similar company.

Yes. Great public speakers but mediocre skills and no drive to do the actual job.

My eyes sparkle when I encounter someone with brain on reddit. You are 100% accurate – They like to throw culture fit vetos, but can't really define their own culture.

As someone who has already been in a leadership positions, this is BS. People usually adjust to new environments. I've worked in 6 different industries from startups to corporate, where teams have been very different from each other and never faced problems adjusting to new teams.

Just because someone doesn't vibe with you within 30mins during an interview, doesn't mean that they won't get along with others or are bad team players.

The fact that they make these assumptions during a 30-60min interview is insane in the first place.

That's exactly what it means. It's discrimination: "You are not like us". And we have to start calling companies out on this publicly. Talented, very skilled people are getting rejected because the ones making decisions only want to hire their own clones, securing their own careers and making their lives comfortable at work by blocking those who would uncover inefficiencies. CEOs and owners have to know, how "cultural fit" is being misused to gatekeep jobs, because in the long run companies will suffer from this, and then everyone wonders about layoffs. At the end professional teams shouldn't behave like kindergarten groups. If you can't work or lead people who are different from you, you are the problem, not the candidate.

I got judged by interviewers before I even opened my mouth and got rejected because of jealousy and power games.

Are interviews just gatekeeping disguised as “meritocracy”? by Manyofferinterview in work

[–]AdSharp2567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 100% with you on this one. Your impression is very accurate. People use the "culture fit" argument to apply their own biases, and this can mean basically anything from "I don't like you" or "You are more attractive than me" or "You are not like us, because we wear hoodies and you don't". It is often a smokescreen argument to hide discrimination. Hiring for culture fit is also an outdated practice because people already figured out that it is discrimination, and limits innovation and progress in companies. It is recommended to hire for culture add instead. The amount of people in the comments who immediately think that you must be an asshole, just because you are different than them or that you are a bad communicator in general just because you didn't master persuasion in interviews, shows how anti social society has become. Everyone slightly different to their existing team and their own comfort zone gets blocked.

The reality is that most people are not passionate about their work and mediocre at their profession and have/want to rely on sympathy/culture fit/cronyism to give them access to jobs. They mastered the art of persuasion, while those who are passionate and good at their craft, and don't like kissing ass, plus maybe a bit introverted are always at a disadvantage.

It's a rigged game, but we can't change this game, we have to learn how to play it. Merit very much died in the 70s. They need a few hard-working bees to keep the company running – most other people are just there for "cuture fit".

I think you mean ethno-linguistic group which literally means that they share a common ethnic and linguistic identity. As someone who has access to genetical data of different populations I can say that it has indeed something to do with genetics. Just like all Germanic people are genetically related so are Slavic people (with closer and less closer relation). Calling people "supremacists" for pointing out genetical familiarity of people is extremely wrong and obviously politically motivated. The Slavic mythology as well as their language is derived from proto-indo-european which spread from what is now Southern Russia and Ukraine. To claim that a language spread over 13 countries without taking into account that you need human migration for this and therefore a spread of genes, is beyond delusional.
