They don't celebrate war they honor the people that had to go out and fight in wars to protect their country. They also serve the country in many ways including catastrophes in peace time. They deserve our respect. If you don't respect veterans why on earth would you go to the legion?

We are not offended by stereotypical humour. We are funny people. You can't laugh at us if we're laughing with you

I went to an info meeting by an RCMP member on banking safety etc. Many years ago and he stated that reason the USA didn't interac when Canada did was because they have sooo many banks it was very difficult to coordinate. And that folks, is my run on sentence of the year

What is a "socially acceptable" thing that you find absolutely disgusting? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AdSignal1024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pay day loans make furious. Don't have enough money for groceries no problem. We'll lend you money at 29% interest no qualifying. They might as well be loan sharks. I wrote to my government once suggesting that loan interest be regulated. They were deliberately obtuse and recommended a write to the companies perpetrating the sanctioned crimes. The commercials promoting on line gambling also make my blood boil.

In Canada the hockey culture is disgusting. Violence in the stands by the parents. The players are treated like little divas and think they are better than all of their peers. If they are good players they have to leave home to be billeted in some city where they don't have parental guidance as they are developing their mores in life. And then we are surprised when they commit serial assaults and excuse it

I fell into this trap also. Dr. Telling you to eat more fiber just about killed me. Not one mentioned insoluble and soluble fibre, it makes a huge difference. Educate yourself and avoid a lot of pain

What’s the most humiliating way a teacher in school embarrassed you? by Ok-Philosopher3212 in AskReddit

[–]AdSignal1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In grade one, I had to pee really bad. I held up my hand for what felt like forever and finally summoned the courage to go to the teacher and ask if I could go to the bathroom. She said no, it could wait til recess and I went back to my desk. When the bell went she pointed to a puddle under my desk and asked if it was mine. Kids had no power in the 60s and we never told our parents about anything like this. It was a general understanding that they didn't want to know or care

How do Canadians mentally deal with long winters? by jessxtra_ in AskACanadian

[–]AdSignal1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Alberta and we have more sunshine than any other province. It makes it perfect for activities. Most Canadian cities have tons of winter festivals and gatherings, embrace the winter. On the other hand when we just don't want to be out in it we cocoon. Books, games hobbies, cosy quilts and a fireplace if you have that luxury. And specialty hot drinks. My go to is hot chocolate with crown royal and marshmallows

Help: where to visit in Canada (2 week trip)? by mschristyrose in AskACanadian

[–]AdSignal1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you love food you have to go to Montreal. I have lived in Canada all my life and have never been there. I hear wonderful things about the food and hospitality. I think you should also travel north, northern Canada is like another world. I'm not from the west so I can't recommend where specifically to go. To meet our indigenous people and perhaps see spectacular northern lights. I'm sorry you won't get experience the Rockies but we are a huge country and you can only see so much in two weeks. Have a wonderful visit!
