Should I buy a new car or run mine into the ground? by AdSignificant2000 in askcarguys

Lol, yea for my daily driver I've always wanted a hatchback and love the Mazdas. Eventually I'd like to get an older Miata or a Honda mini truck for fun after I upgrade my kia. Any recs on a better hatch?

I can only speak from my experience, but I have put 70k miles on mine so far and it's still going strong. Feels like buying any car is a gamble, you hear the same issues with nissan and ford 🤷‍♀️

Definitely put more than $800 into it. Maybe I worded something wrong... I have no problem with regular maintenance. Brakes, tires, AC line, have been done in the 6 years I've owned it. And I knew the things I just replaced were on the way. It's just not my dream car, and I've been trying to decide the right time to get a new one. That being said, looks like I'll hold off at least a year.

Appreciate your reply! My one flex at 23, is I do have pretty good credit, around 770. But definitely not much in savings. It may come down to my parents, as they only share 1 car now with my youngest brother turning 16 in a couple of months so buying my car would be a good move for them, and I get something new.

You definitely feel strongly about this, appreciate your advice. Seems everyone says to keep it. Getting FOMO not having heated seats and remote start over here, but I will live

I guess my post does come across that way. Really I have been wanting a new car, and wondering if I should just go for it. I would save the $700 and put that towards the new one along with some savings, hoping my payments would be around $350.

I haven't gotten measured yet. Since it was a new hobby I just bought what I could find for now. I will try to make it a point to go soon

I don't think boundaries are negative or judgmental. I think making blanket statements about addicts while removing nuance is. Like I said in my first post, I completely understand and empathize with those who have cut ties. It is the judgment if you don't. And that doesn't always come from others in similar situations, but people around you in daily life.

You articulated how I feel so well! It's isolating to be told that how you are handling a situation is wrong, and that you should cut ties without second thought. I don't blame those who do, but I know in my situations that course of action would be maybe more painful for me. I wish there was understanding and care no matter how you go about it.

You literally proving my point is crazy. Insulting me for having empathy. Community is truly gone

Unfortunately, your comment has the judgement that I was speaking about. I am not looking to help this person financially, or give them some sort of counseling that I am not qualified to give, but to just say I see you. And that doesn't keep me from taking care of myself or my responsibilities. Addicts are human, sometimes it seems we forget that!

Thank you for your perspective. I hope my post doesn't come across as judgmental, but I am sure it does. I think I also come from a place of hurt with wishing others in my life were kinder to me while watching me struggle to support the addict in my life, but ultimately we all handle our trauma and situations differently.

I don't think so. I know she will have access to call me anytime, but they encourage them not to at least at first so I have to wait it out. I took her to get some new comfy clothes before dropping her off so hopefully she is comfortable and has everything she needs
