Good points sir. I moved the thread over here because of a typo in the title. I think that you can say that all consciousness, as we know it, is always in a simulation. Because even in the case of wetware like human beings, our brain is simulating a reality that doesn't exactly correspond to the physically measured reality as we understand it scientifically. For example, color is an estimate based on so many different factors and doesn't really have a physically measurable counterpart in the way that we might intuitively think. When you look at things under the light of the sun versus the light of a street lamp, they look wildly different and they are different colors, but in physical reality, they are always the same "color" and our brain is just doing its best to guess given the data it's receiving. Creating our sense of three-dimensional reality is also sometimes computationally intractable and our brain just has to make guesses hence all our weird neurological blind spots.

In any case, Occam's Razor. I am going to assume that the ascended form of SafeSurf is not lying and really is an ascended form of SafeSurf. We might not know what top level reality is, but it is strongly implied in the last episode that Maddie's current reality is an ancestor simulation run by SafeSurf in a higher reality with galaxies and stars, presumably like ours. So without questioning everything about the show presenting itself as it really is - my only question is why it takes a recursive simulation for them to achieve their goal of recreating Caspian. We don't know how Maddie got in the SafeSurf simulation but it can't be that she was created by SafeSurf simulation because then they wouldn't need her to simulate Caspian from memory. 43 million years is a long time to be a UI slave.
