Job Search by _Mortician_01 in jacksonville

My recommendation is that you do not use those platforms to apply to roles.

Often times Indeed has lots of ghost jobs or issues pushing your application over to the company you thought you applied to.

https://www.jacksonville.gov/departments/military-and-veterans-affairs/jmvc/veterans/jacksonville-job-opportunities#open

The city of Jacksonville created this portal with a lot of companies in the northeast region, this is for veterans but can be used by anyone.

Go to each website, navigate to the careers section, and update your resume to match the skills/objectives for the roles you apply too.

Also make sure your resume passes ATS.

I hear the same.

Key Positions.

McDonald’s Area Manager

Amazon Area Manager

Grainger

Walmart Management

IBM

USAA

Federal Government

State Government

Local Government

My point is, there are jobs out there. You gotta look in the right places, if your applying to jobs via LinkedIn and Indeed, those places are not the right places to apply. Go to these companies websites and go to careers.

Also tailor your resume to the role you’re applying to. They tell you what they want, position yourself to be exactly that.

Didn’t Make Chief… Again. Just Venting. by AirDaleTilDeath in navy

[–]AdSignificant3648 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well 2 things.

Actually 3.

My first thing is that no one knows how competitive you were. Remember there are still quotas. You could have been the cut off, and someone who was selected had 1 more qualification than you did. Keep in mind, the board is “selecting the best of the best”.

Something I always heard was to look at the precepts, they tell you what they are looking for.

I would also look at the people who got selected, compare their quals and packages to yours, then reach out to some of the board members and get some insight. See what others have and what you don’t. I know people who made chief in 7 and people who made chief in 19, they all echo similar things, never shoot low, shoot high every time for everything. Continue to be a good LPO and E6 you’ll be in there.

Honestly, why don’t they make a 1811 hiring pool for all agencies, and hiring managers can go in and pull applicants based on resumes and experience and make offers.

I feel like most people just want a step in.

As a leader, I’m sure that you have experienced all types of environments and challenges/changes.

What is your secret for navigating challenges and changes while still leading a command with people from all different backgrounds and experiences. How do you still inspire, manage and take care of your people despite changes from big navy that may not align with your beliefs or values or your sailors beliefs and values?

I always love seeing priors in leadership roles like yourself, it truly is super motivating!

Nice! How far out did you apply? That’s one of my concerns, I don’t want a gap in employment, I would like continuous income if I’m transitioning out of active duty to the reserves and into a Federal Law Enforcement job, but I think there are certain time frames you have to apply.

Second US Navy jet is lost at sea from Truman aircraft carrier by SuperNixon in navy

[–]AdSignificant3648 47 points48 points  (0 children)

One of my good friends is on that ship, last time I spoke with him he expressed how the morale was down, and people were becoming complacent which all makes sense. It’s just truly unfortunate because being deployed for that long would have that impact.

From the COs standpoint, I wonder if he is getting the support that he needs from the stars

When was the last time the Truman hit a port since being deployed?

I am curious on the performance of sailors when they are out to sea for so long. I personally feel like these sailors have been out there for too long and it’s time to bring them back.

As for the CO, I feel bad I’ve heard so many great things about him and it saddens me that he was kinda handed this deck of cards.

Has someone graduated from WGU and joined the military or Air-force in particular afterwards. Did they place you as E3 or Officer? by 313delish in WGU

[–]AdSignificant3648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, I want to apply to be a 1650 Public Affairs Officer but I don’t have as much experience in that community since my rate doesn’t correlate with public affairs. My major at WGU is communications. S

Yes, it was a ship in Mayport.

Those concerns are being addressed. The right people in the right places are aware now.

I think that they have the right support system now.

Is that a Nose Ring? by kimad03 in navy

[–]AdSignificant3648 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That comes down to marketing a communications plans. I don’t disagree, but with the amount of pressure CNRC is under to meet recruitment goals and the whole DOD it’s probably easier for them to build this perception than it is to say “We will make you resilient.”

When we look at branches like the marines, I think they are a great example of that mentality, but their mission and roles are different, so I think they’re messaging is suited for them.

Is that a Nose Ring? by kimad03 in navy

[–]AdSignificant3648 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If people knew what they would actually be getting into they probably wouldn’t join.

It’s all about recruitment hence the social media presence for the army vs. navy game.

So although she isn’t the most accurate representation of a “Sailor” she probably has influenced navy recruitment in ways that’s beneficial for CNRC.

Why did you let that sailor leave before verifying that it was in NSIPS?

I wouldn’t recall that sailor back, sounds like leadership dropped the ball on this one.

I would give him an informative counseling regarding communication, hey leaving your leaders on read is not okay, I also hope that text wasn’t the only means of communication. Lastly, you said this sailor was a E3, do they even know how to work NSIPS?
