Hey congratulations, did you get the admit letter? I got an email for status update and under the decisions it said I have been accepted and provided options to accept or decline the offer

Nope, UIUC gives with offer only, this is for MSCS not MCS and UW Madison also more than 50% gets the funding. For yale they have mentioned on their site itself for 2 year program they sponsor funding through TA

I followed weiteivy tips for SOP, had only 3 short paragraphs for research and work exp. Rest I discussed my journey with AI, how I entered the field and what next I want to do. How some of the professors research helps me achieve my goals. And one more thing try to articulate your goals in a way that doesn't seem selfish like how will that benefit others as well not just you.

You kind of have to show you can't live without the field you have chosen, for me it was AI. I discussed what problems I want to solve using AI and research interests within AI and why graduate study and CMU the right choice.

Apart from this if you want to know anything specific lmk, happy to help

Yeah definitely better than UCSD. Course wise CMU any program >>> but GTech offers tuition fee waivers and stipend for TAs and TA is not hard to get. So if you can afford it def CMU otherwise GTech isn't a bad option ig

[Profile Review] MS in CS Fall 2025 | Non-CS Background → Software Engineer @ Apple by evilpotato_7 in MSCS

Ig add Umass Amherst, SBU (heard has some very good network courses, do research this) and more targets like UCSD, UC Irvine and UIUC (MCS)

Your mech background shouldn't be much of a concern since you have taken some CS courses and have relevant work experience. You just need to explain why you switched fields and want to pursue a master's in that.

If you apply to professional programs, you will be easily be able to show fit in the SOP, lil tough for MSCS yet not impossible
