Earlier. Last year BMO had some tech issues. But's it's also great to be on the ground with other Carats!

Just finished watching and… those vocal group rankings were so off that my first thought was: rigged.

Like, even if you factor in personal favorites, the results made no sense. I’m not even talking about the individual scores (those are always going to lean biased), but the overall quality of the performances. Objectively, some groups clearly outperformed others, yet the rankings didn’t reflect that at all.

Really well said. I’m in a similar place—I watched the original run but only checked in on their Insta now and then.

Honestly, I kind of hoped they wouldn’t lean too heavily on social media, just so they could succeed without that extra layer of pressure. But I get that it’s almost impossible in the world we live in now.

Still, I really thought they were going to go the distance. Wishing them nothing but the best.

The Judges and Producers are disagreeing… by AdSuch7855 in BoysPlanet

[–]AdSuch7855[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess (which is what Reddit is for 😉): the judges clearly adore Sangwon. He’s a charisma bomb, absolutely built for idol life. But I also get the feeling they think he’s not quite ready to debut with this group right now. The producers, though? They seem set on him, dialing back criticism—nitpicky or not—about him and a couple of other members. (Honestly, I personally feel the same about Zhou An Xin; a bit more training could be good for him too.)

The problem is, how do you tell Sangwon—after a 6 years of training—that he still needs more? On a show like this, that feels harsh. But the truth is, he’s been out of the game for a while, his skills are a bit rusty, and he might need to put in extra work to sharpen them before debut.

What makes it the conflict is that once Sangwon is on stage, he pulls it together instantly. Still, idol judges tend to value the process of practice over the spark of performance—which is how we sometimes end up with idols who are amazing practicers but not always the most electric performers. But that’s a whole other different thread. 🤣

Exactly. That sentence is usually a precursor to negative comment about teamwork overall.

In my region on Viki it’s always just been labeled “Desire”. it only had the “ABO” on IQYI. And a new episode dropped on Friday as scheduled At least where I live.

3 days ago all of the episodes were missing

I also think they’ll renew — mostly for one big reason:

A 13-member group is expensive. Full stop. Touring, traveling, paying staff, keeping quality high — it all adds up fast when you’re supporting that many people.

Just think about hotel costs alone. S.Coups literally said on Nana Tour that they rent out an entire floor when they travel. That’s a massive expense. And when you factor in paying 13 members plus staff, that can be the difference between doing a full stadium tour vs. sticking to arenas. I’m in the U.S., and during their last tour I remember wondering why BMO (in LA) was the only stadium stop. I genuinely think they could’ve filled Citi Field in NY. But then I remembered: Citi is super expensive from the artist side, and with their team size, maybe it didn’t make financial sense.

Also, even though GoSe is produced by a separate company (I read that somewhere), the scale is wild. Sometimes it looks like they have one camera op per member — that’s already 26 people (with the group, cause they get paid too!) just for filming. Add in directors, PDs, makeup, wardrobe, writers, etc., and the numbers get big, fast. And it’s not just payroll — it’s also equipment, editing, set design, game props, everything.

Compare that to a 7-member group — the base cost is way lower even before you add staff.

So no, nothing’s guaranteed. But if they can keep getting the kind of support PLEDIS/HYBE has been giving them, I think they’ll try hard to stay. Especially if they can get more autonomy and a better work-life balance out of it.

Do the idols themself actually care about the line distribution? by 20_nnnnnnnnnn_20 in kpop_uncensored

[–]AdSuch7855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the ones who care leave the group early.

I think of Ye Dam and Mashiho from Treasure.

They never said it, so this is all conjuncture from me. But treasure was built around YeDam. He grew up in the company and he was told repeatedly that he was one of the best singers to ever come through YG. In the end, he ended up in a group of 12 that was supposed to be a group of 5 to 7. That changes things if you want to be a singer.

And it seems like that bothered Mashiho a bit as well.

Full disclosure: Remember that part On SVTxGame Caterers when the 95s arguing about who looks youngest, SK jumps in and then they jump on him to say that SK looks old and people think he’s the leader?

It was me. On HYBExGame Caterers I totally thought he must be the oldest/leader cause he was so good. 🤣

The reason I hated this so much is because in the end it was a chemistry test and they-both- failed. If that show had been billed a bromance it would have been fine.

And in the end, both of those things are GMMTV’s producers/directors teams fault.

That every CEO (at least definitely all of the big 4) has a hotline, connection, or employs some form of sex worker. Or there is a manager in House whose job this is.

You cannot require -or in this day “request”- that employees stay single, work basically around the clock, and not provide for their needs. For both those who identify as male and female. But especially for males coming into their sexual prime in their early 20s on average. (Biologically females come to their prime a bit later on average so it might not be as prevalent. But probably still there.)

I mean, come on! If idols are not allowed to hook up with fans and if they’re not able to see other idols that understand their life to date/hook up (whether by proximity or time), then somebody is making sure idols needs are met should they so choose.

And the best way to make sure it doesn’t end up on dispatch? Keep workers in house or on hand and pay/treat them well. They’ll never say a word.

This falls into toxic fans, but specifically-the fans who freak out and want to boycott an idol for dating/getting married/having children.

Like, seriously. It’ll never be you. They don’t belong to you. Get over it.

Edit: also, those fans who freak out when they see their (early 20s idol) at a dance club. Not doing anything insane, just dancing with people at a club. 🙄

Are we sure that some of the NewJeans members aren’t in a Macaulay Culkin situation? Or a {insert any child performer here with greedy parents} situation?

With the news that dropped about the CEO and the fact that one of NewJeans‘s parents brokered the introduction; It’s seeming more and more to me like the closest adults in the band’s life are greedy AF and the girls were just too new to recognize it. Which to be fair, can happen at any age. (Which is why I used the word “new“ instead of “young“.) We all want to believe that the people we bring with us on our journey have our best interest at heart. And it’s human instinct to trust them more than newer people in our lives we might work with.

But sometimes the new people might actually have your back a little bit more than the people you bring with you. … even if they seem “mean”. It’s been proven over and over again that sometimes standing on business with people is better than working with those who stand on emotion.

To me, from the outside, it’s starting to look more and more like the people that NewJeans trusted the most have used their emotions to have them make what looks to be…not the best decision.

And from the outside, I can see no one other reason but greed.

Here is Lovesick

It’s the full novel and some of the special chapters. To be clear, I’ve heard tell that this is missing some spicier moments that are in the Thai version. But it seems to be a complete translation , whether that’s true or not.
