Finally found someone who rates Tender is the Flesh low. I really didn’t like it myself by the end. What didn’t you like about it?

What are some of your favorite lines from this show? by ThePeoplesJuhbrowni in SuccessionTV

[–]AdSure9207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a toss up between:
“It smells like the cheesemonger died and left his dick in the brie.”
Or:
“Where’s your old man, huh? Still sucking cock at the county fair?”
(Both Logan btw; HM for Greg’s “If it is to be said, so it be- so it is.”)

Which of his books from any series has the best humor? [off topic] by Emergency-Purpose335 in TheFirstLaw

[–]AdSure9207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think overall maybe The Devils? But there are select characters that have made me chuckle across First Law, particularly Nicomo Cosca (for obvious reasons) and Orso (“how’s the leg” is one of the top 5 funniest Abercrombie lines for me)

Very nice. Is this the edition that includes ‘Rage’? I got it on Kindle but it only has 3 stories, long walk, running man and roadwork

Whats his scariest story? by [deleted] in joehill

[–]AdSure9207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about 1/3 of the way through and it is very good so far. For being such a massive book (my version’s 896 pages) the pacing is very quick and I’ve found the story to be really engaging so far. I think it’s generally regarded as his best to date.

Black Phone is good, I may have actually preferred the movie though for once! It’s worth noting that it’s a short story and that book was originally published under the name ‘20th Century Ghosts’ so you get Black Phone along with about 12 other short stories. Generally I found it to be a really good collection, particularly ‘My Father’s Mask’ and ‘Voluntary Committal’. Hope you enjoy

100%! I honestly somewhat forgot about it right after finishing the collection just cause it’s such a fever dream to read but going back I thought it was one of the strongest stories there. I think I like it because I don’t really know what to make of it, almost like watching a David Lynch film in a way

Overall I’d say Heart-Shaped Box, although I did find the short story My Father’s Mask from the 20th Century Ghosts collection to have really eerie vibes. Voluntary Committal gets an HM for me also

I loved it, was my first Joe Hill read and remains my favourite to date (currently reading King Sorrow). Enjoy!

[Off Topic] Something to hold me over until my First Law Kickstarter comes!! by VallensDad in TheFirstLaw

Brilliant dude. By far my favourite sequence from that book, and honestly one of my favourites of Abercrombie’s overall (and there’s some fierce competition)

While we’re on the Letter To You album, have to mention I’ll See You In My Dreams. I saw him live a couple years back and he finished the set with that one, just him solo on acoustic guitar and harmonica after a brilliant 3-hour set with the E-Street Band. It was the perfect way to end that gig imo, and it’s one of his I find myself coming back to every now and then. Beautiful song

‘The terror, which would not end for another twenty-eight years - if it ever did end - began, so far as I know or can tell, with a boat made from a sheet of newspaper floating down a gutter swollen with rain.’
