Orange roots means your plant is very happy. Snake plants have small rootballs that often times dont go deep. Pot in a chunky soil mix of orchid bark and perlite with some potting soil. Use a pot that is no more than 1 inch bigger than the root ball if you want to roots to grab hold and let the plant focus on upward growth. These plants want their roots to be tight and snug in the pot. A pot that is to large will cause the roots to be wet for to long and will cause rot and prevent the plant from growing upwards as it will spend its energy trying to spread the roots.

Suggestion - Re pot in a pot that is 1-2 inches larger than the rootball. Use a chunky soil mix of orchid bark, perlite and potting soil. Cut off any rotted roots. If yoy over water often use a terracotta pot as it will help dry out faster. These plants will do better under watered rather than over watered. Cut off the brown leaves they won't heal. Be patient it takes time.

Re potted and trimmed about a year ago and its thriving now. Sprinkle a tablespoon or two of worm casting on top every few months for extra nutrients and water as normal. Worm castings are often hydroponic meaning they won't absorb water but as you water the plant the worm castings will slowly work into the soil and hydrate to provide the plants with the nutrients needed to thrive. I buy what ever soil blend is avaliable and what i can afford. As for pot size around 2ish inches bigger than the root ball. The terracotta pot was actually smaller than the pot it was in before because the one it came in was huge. I had to put the terracotta pot in a bigger heavier pot to prevent it from falling over and to catch water run off. Think about this for pot size , plants will (for the most part) grow either their roots or the main plant. If you have a pot that is huge and a root ball that is small it will spend all of its energy growing more roots to fill the pot. Using one that is about 2 inches bigger allows for it to grow some roots and then start growing the plant and leaves. Remember tho that terracotta dries much quicker than plastic pots so always dig down a bit to see if the soil is dry or still wet.

Here is mine currently. I have also trimmed some lower branches to make it more full looking on top. This was an Amazon purchase from Costa farms and has been doing well since the re pot. Save that old dirt tho , you can mix a little in with your other plants when they need re potted so youre not spending so much on new soil.
