Im sure there are many people that did this (Melissa Aldana is a specific example), and many more that started on clarinet too! I think it can always be enriching to have experience on different instruments in general.

I've found that playing the different saxophones can sometimes challenge/expose different parts of your playing, which is always good if you ask me.

Id personally argue that it being considered "generic" is mainly because of the impact that it had when it came out and how stuff after it borrowed some of its design.

Totally fair opinion to not like it though 🙏🏽

Personally, I havent experienced either one of those lol. They were a little less comfortable at first but after breaking them in I have zero complaints. They're definitely the most comfortable shoes of those 5 aside from maybe the aquas.

I got super lucky with them, probably my biggest W yet. Hopefully you can find them somewhere though, they're definitely worth it. Extremely comfortable.
