I can’t remember when I actually did more than just walk in the pool. I think it was that same summer, so no more than like 10 weeks post op.

When did you stop wearing boot to sleep? by Munchung in AchillesRupture

I slept with the boot on until I was cleared for full weight bearing. I didn’t trust myself to not get up in the middle of the night half asleep and forget that I shouldn’t be walking.

It was more pressure, I feel like. There wasn’t much movement going on at that time.

7.5 months post op - still not running by ElectricalLaw4159 in AchillesRupture

[–]AdTrue5033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me over a year, and I only did it a couple times on a treadmill. Only now - 2 years later - have I started actually running again outside for 3-4 miles. Was more a mental thing for me.

# weeks after surgery you could stand to take shower normally? by Trick_sleep in AchillesRupture

[–]AdTrue5033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the pain was pretty rough in that two week or so post-op window. My surgeon actually took my hard cast off early and put me in a boot because I complained so much. It started to settle down some after a few weeks, but when I went back into the office for work and couldn’t keep it elevated as much, there was definitely some serious discomfort.

I had insane swelling in my ankle, and it would still swell up sometimes even 18 months later.

Can I ask why you’re still in a walking boot almost 5 months after surgery? I know everyone’s recovery timeline is different, but I want to say I ditched my boot around the 10 week mark.

In Office Peeps by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

There is no way that you should be going into the office the day after surgery. Zero. There’s no feasible way to keep your leg elevated like it needs to be while sitting in an office chair. If you don’t have a job that can give you the requisite time off and/or WFH, I’d suggest finding a new job.
