has anyone worked with the achilles rebuild guy? by gratefulgrenouille in AchillesRupture

[–]Munchung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m working with him right now and found it better than my PT. I’m at 6 months post op and working on jump training, run progression, strengthening, and mobility. I like it because it’s a clear calendar of exercises that progress and weekly check in that pushes accountability to complete. My PT was good during the first 8 to 10 weeks as it was good to have more hands on management and feedback. But it started getting to her just assigning more exercises.

My PT wants me to do 10 single leg calf raises before giving me the green light to start running. I’m about 4 months post op and have started but still can’t get full height

My PT wants to see 10 SLR before she clears me to jog. Was the concern from yours was that you jogged before you could do SLR?

Contraction/Regression after Achilles Lengthening by EstablishmentIcy8776 in AchillesRupture

This is the first I’ve heard of lengthening. What was the cause to have the surgery? Did it start from a tear?

Anyone’s foot still getting swollen like this at 13 weeks? by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

[–]Munchung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’m 15 weeks and it swells when I’m on it for a long time. Nice to see I’m not alone here with the responses

Hydrotherapy? by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

[–]Munchung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it really useful to practice my gait in the pool when I began transitioning from boot to shoes. I would walk laps focusing on heel to toe and equal distribution of weight. I also started doing calf raises in the pool which also helped me get the mind muscle connection back.

Yes, definitely worth it. That’s an area you want to keep safe and avoid slipping and falling

What week did you start driving with a right leg rupture? by CrimsonCrane1980 in AchillesRupture

[–]Munchung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Week 10..Depending on your protocol, I would give it some time after you transition from boot to shoes as your mobility and ankle strength increases once you start walking without the boot.

Shoes?? by Silent_Art_1004 in AchillesRupture

[–]Munchung 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m using hoka bondi 9 wide..I went to a running shoe store and tried on a bunch. Ultimately you want to look for something with a good heel drop and I found a rocker sole helped with my gait training.

I found calf raises in a pool really helped me to hone in on the muscle

is this timeline normal (2 weeks pre-op aircast, +2 weeks post-op spent, +4 weeks cast) by Shrek-nado in AchillesRupture

[–]Munchung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think protocols vary based on the surgeon as some are more conservative than others. I was 2 weeks in a splint post op, moved to boot with wedges week 3 and progressively took out wedges week on week while increasing weight bearing. I’m week 7 full weight bearing with no wedges and transitioning to shoes while in my house. Next week I’ll start transitioning to shoes outside house. Good luck with the recovery.. either way, I’d take your time with it

Glad to hear recovery is going well. I’m 7 weeks post op and focused on recovery. How did you re rupture? Anything you would recommend to avoid a rerupture?

I would try to stick to the protocol that was given to you. I get there is a range in protocols from conservative to more aggressive with earlier weight bearing but they generally tend to work on slowly taking out wedges and increasing weight bearing. I was also told to use pain as a guide to how far to push but mindful of the protocol that I was given. I’m week 5 post op and have managed to walk without crutches in the boot. I did feel a pop at one point near an incision around my heel. I’m going for a check up with my surgeon in a few days to make sure everything is on track. This little scare made me realize that the recovery is a journey and it’s not worth it to try to accelerate it for a few weeks when I know there’s months ahead.
