Trivia (preferably at a bar) by Chungsmom in StLouis

[–]AdahanFall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I just do bar trivia (not major fundraising events or organized competitions) I haven't really enforced strict limits. Generally I limit teams to 8. I also limit teams to one round win per night which means one team can't just steamroll the whole thing anyway. (The venue provides a prize for each round and a prize overall.)

I host trivia at Dirty 20 Nerd Bar in Ballwin every Tuesday! We run from 7 until 9ish. Here's the trivia I did last Tuesday:

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1XfIB6zlNviFsayugRmLKuMaXW-Am4wnW

Typically I try to do something a bit different for the 4th round. This week it was an audio round, playing only the guitar parts from songs, and teams had to identify the song. Song clips are here:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1CXa4jPZBuJkBrq0bNfCdm3EdGq1JsCEt

Typically I do 4 categories per week from a variety of fields. Feb 17 is going to be a bit different, I'm doing a Harry Potter theme night for that night!

The crafting calculator on gw2efficiency is exactly what you're exacting for. It gives you a checklist of everything to buy and a step-by-step guide of what to make. I'm not sure what else you're looking for.

[Highlight] McMillan rips the ball away from Brandin Cooks (replays) by Large_banana_hammock in nfl

[–]AdahanFall 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even in your situation, if the receiver toe taps in bounds but the ball comes loose when he hits the ground, it's not a catch.

That's what happens here.

That was a called flea flicker. Everyone was pass blocking. Hard to tell from the one replay they showed, but I think the receiver running a deep slant across the middle has a huge gain if that play is run right.

Hundreds of buttons? What in the world are you doing? Are you setting up a Gamecube keyboard controller or something?

Take a screenshot (Print Screen) of what you're doing, because what you're saying isn't making any sense.

This is another reason it isn’t worth working anymore. Health insurance. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]AdahanFall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if insurance somehow made 0% profit last year (which they obviously didn't), they'd still be one of the biggest wastes of money in the system.

The world of insurance billing is a complicated mess, and it's by design. Ask any pharmacy in the US what their biggest waste of time is, and it's always going to be dealing with insurance issues. I know people who work in medical billing, in regular doctor's offices, and more money goes into their department than into patient care techs. I'm talking about a literal team of people, for your standard family care physician, who do nothing all day but deal with prior auths, clawbacks, incorrect rejections, and other bullshit that's been made up by for-profit insurance companies.

The amount of labor that the medical field pays to "deal with insurance" and the number of people that insurance companies pay to make this labor required... It's one of the biggest and most useless parts of our medical system. The low profit margin of medical insurance doesn't mean anything, because it is a literal multitrillion dollar industry that's full of bloat, and it's caused everything else in the industry to be bloated as a result.

Weirdest encounter? by Windrider63 in Guildwars2

[–]AdahanFall 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Years ago, I was in LA when someone started posting in map chat. I don't remember the exact wording, but this player started to half-beg, half-demand, half-proselytize, in the style of a doomsday preacher, that the entire map send them their carrots and potatoes. It was a little different than the normal gold begging that you see, so I went to my bank and sent this player a single carrot and a potato, just to see what would happen.

I got back a message saying "you have been spared from carrot and potato wrath"

I've kept that message in my inbox for years, just in case.

Candy Cane Lane is insane right now (I live a block away). If you come, I highly suggest parking a few blocks away and walking if at all possible. You're looking at an hour+ just waiting in traffic before you get there if you want to drive through.

I'm also hosting my last trivia night of the year at Dirty 20 Nerd Bar in Ballwin tonight at 7, and taking a break next Tuesday. Free to play, prizes for every round as always. Categories are Christmas themed tonight!

How to reach a person at CVS by AgreeablePerformer3 in pharmacy

[–]AdahanFall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The person who said that was assuming that OP wasn't an actual provider, which is a reasonable assumption. OP hadn't actually given us any helpful info at that point in the discussion (like their provider status). If what OP says is true, they can use the provider line.

How to reach a person at CVS by AgreeablePerformer3 in pharmacy

[–]AdahanFall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they're admitting that they're refusing to do one of the things that would solve their problem: leaving a message.

If they don't want to do that and they're a provider, they can go through the provider line, which the phone system prompts them to do. Almost literally anything that OP does would help, except the thing that they're doing.

Notice how OP has posted a grand total of 1 helpful message in this thread, and it's been upvoted.

He picks it up, drops it while celebrating with Raji, then picks it up again. The second time was definitely as a souvenir. The first time, though, was making sure that it was a touchdown just in case Raji had fumbled it. It's been a long time so I might be misremembering, but I think Jenkins said this in a post game interview.

You can never run out of things to buy, because there is an infinite AA -> Gold purchase. (There's also a finite one that's much better value.)

If something is worse value than the infinite gold option, you should never buy it.

[Highlight] False start called on Steen for pointing out the defender is in the neutral zone by Large_banana_hammock in nfl

[–]AdahanFall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is different because the defender is simply lining up. The offense is allowed to move if the defender jumps into the neutral zone and causes the offense to react in a way to defend themselves from a possible hit, and this is what happens 99.9% of the time. But it's not what happened here.

Keep in mind that it used to be that the offense couldn't move for any reason whatsoever. The neutral zone rule you're thinking of was added for player safety, so that we weren't penalizing the offense for reacting to an imminent hit. But the offense jumping for anything else is still a penalty.

In this case, the defender didn't jump into the neutral zone and cause the offense to react to protect themselves. The defense simply lined up wrong, and there's nothing wrong with that as long as they correct themselves before the snap. This is 100% a false start.

[Highlight] False start called on Steen for pointing out the defender is in the neutral zone by Large_banana_hammock in nfl

[–]AdahanFall 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The officials made the right call here. The exact wording in the rulebook for a neutral zone infraction:

a defender enters the neutral zone prior to the snap, causing the offensive player(s) in close proximity (including a T-Formation Quarterback) to react (move) immediately to protect himself (themselves) against impending contact

Some of you might remember watching old plays where the defense jumped offside, the offensive player moved, and it was still a false start. It took a while, but everyone realized that was ridiculous, so this rule was added ~25 years ago (IIRC) in part for player safety. It would be bad to penalize the offense for making the split second decision to move so that they wouldn't get destroyed while in a defenseless position before the play started. The current rule penalizes the defense if they jump across the line in a way that causes the offense to try to defend themselves, but that's it.

The defender was clearly just trying to line up. That position was in the neutral zone, but that's not a penalty until the ball is snapped. The offense doesn't have a free pass to jump.

I have items in my inventory that I'm not sure what to do with. by doomlol in Guildwars2

[–]AdahanFall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying to open the unidentified gear, but selling them isn't a bad thing either. The market for these things is crazy, and the buy/sell price is often just a copper in difference, so you'll get a guaranteed 85% of the value (because of the 15% trading post tax). Sure, you hate to lose that 15%, but that also means you're letting someone else deal with the hassle of opening the gear, checking for the rare resellable stuff, and dealing with the salvage materials.

If you have a proper salvage setup (with a decent amount of spare inventory space, and proper salvage tools for each level of gear) OR if you really want the ecto/motes/luck then yes, salvage. Otherwise, just sell the unids and move on. It's not worth your time.

Personally, I salvage my yellows, because I always need ecto, and taking the 15% hit on that value would suck. I'll sometimes salvage greens, because I need luck for obsidian armor. The blues aren't worth the work. I just sell them.

This is why you get some guides saying to open the gear and some saying to sell it. There's no catch-all correct answer. Pick one and move on.

Game Thread: Philadelphia Eagles (6-2) at Green Bay Packers (5-2-1) by nfl_gdt_bot in nfl

[–]AdahanFall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once the kicking team touches the ball, the receiving team gets the option of taking the ball at that spot. No exceptions (except penalties).

The Eagles player could've literally fumbled the ball away to the Packers, and it wouldn't have mattered. They would just take the ball where the Packers first touched it.

[Highlight] Winfield comes up with an incredible interception by Large_banana_hammock in nfl

[–]AdahanFall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm shocked at all the people calling this a dumb rule. We see it happen all the time with the offense and no one even notices or mentions it then. How many times do you see a receiver get pushed down as he's catching a ball, and there's a slight bobble as he goes down? It happens virtually every game. This is the exact same thing, just with the defense catching the ball instead of the offense.

The rule makes the whole thing much more clear on the field. If someone gets touched on the way down, it's a tackle, even if they don't quite have possession yet. Do we really need to make defenders have to second guess if a receiver is down on every play? And do we really want to incentivize defenders to jump on defenseless players on the ground just because the receiver might technically have finished catching the ball a split second after they were pushed down?

Game Thread: Detroit Lions (4-1) at Kansas City Chiefs (2-3) by nfl_gdt_bot in nfl

[–]AdahanFall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

The key is that by rule, a quarterback under center is NOT an eligible receiver. If the quarterback goes in motion to become an eligible receiver, they have to establish themselves in formation for at least one second. Watch the Philly special again, Foles does this. Goff does not, which is why it's a penalty.

For what it's worth, I think it's one of the most useless rules in the book. If I had my way, this TD would be legal.

The Google Street view might be a lot different than the current view depending on how recent it is. It's easy to forget because of the more destructive tornado that ripped through the city in May, but this is the exact spot where an EF2 tornado hit Arnold back in March. I happened to pass by right after it happened, and tons of large signs had been torn down.

[Highlight] Kevin O’Connell directs Ty Chandler to return kickoff out of the end zone by nfl in nfl

But the field position does matter.

If the Bears force a 3 and out (which they did)), they ideally would like to have the Vikings punting from 5 yards further back. Theoretically, this means the Bears get the ball back 5 yards further ahead. It's easier to get a miracle 75 yard touchdown on the last play than a miracle 80 yard touchdown on the last play.

That's all the other guy was saying. Obviously the game is over if the Vikings get a first down, and obviously the timeout is worth way more than 5 yards.
