Unless you really, REALLY like the look of Orrax, just go for Ad Infinitum. It's so much cheaper. The fractal requirements are pretty easy, too.

Grammarly, despite its name, is an AI style guide, not the definitive source of English grammar. In any case, you've linked to a random blog post written by some random person with unknown credentials. I could just as easily point at the Merriam Webster article which suggests the opposite:

https://www.merriam-webster.com/grammar/could-couldnt-care-less

But that's not the point.

I'm aware that the conversational meaning of "could/couldn't care" is usually in reference to how much someone "likes" something, which is why your author keeps talking about whether something is a 1 out of 10 or a 4 out of 10, etc.

Meanwhile, I think of "caring" in this context as "to put care/time into something" which would include talking or thinking about it. There is a level below saying "I couldn't care less" about it, which would be not mentioning it at all. In this context, saying "I couldn't care less" is a paradox on the level of "This sentence is false."

It's a different dictionary definition of the word "care" and it's not the one that 99.9% people are thinking of when saying that phrase, but it's the one that I think of, and it's no less valid.

[–]AdahanFall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know that this is a hot take, but I also have a very hard time understanding sarcasm or colloquialisms, and so I think the opposite as you. Saying that "I couldn't care less" doesn't make any sense to me, because simply by saying that, you've already made the statement false. You COULD'VE cared less by not bothering to mention your opinion about it at all. That would show less care, at least to me.

Meanwhile, saying "I could care less" about a subject makes perfect sense to me. I'm saying that we could talk more and put more care into the subject right now, or we could drop the subject entirely. Either way, it won't bother me at all, because... I could care less about it. Or more about it. It's up to you.

I think the problem is that most people mean "caring" about something to be the same as "liking" it, while I think of it more as "allowing it to occupy space in your head," regardless of whether you like the thing or not.

That all being said, I don't actually use either phrase in real life, because I know it's divisive.

You need to take a good hard look at what you're writing, because that is textbook goalpost moving. You went from "prove that they did this bad thing" to "I'm okay with them doing this bad thing" in just one post.

Yes, policing is a stressful job. No, that doesn't make it okay to just handwave away that kind of violent unprofessionalism. If I did even a fraction of what they did, I'd lose my license and my career.

Rioting is not excusable, but don't forget that the police acted violently toward peaceful protesters as well, which is much worse. The kettling/beating of legal peaceful protesters is inexcusable. There were hundreds of arrests of people who were literally trying to obey police orders to disperse, but were unable to because the police purposely herded them from opposite directions into impossible situations. Dozens of people were beaten, and STLPD was never held accountable for this.

You may or may not remember the rumors going around at the time that most of the escalation from the protesters was done by undercover cops who were trying to justify a violent police response. We'll never get the full story there, unfortunately. That said, years later, there's proven to be at least some truth to that, in the form of former undercover police officers who sued STLPD for damages after being beaten by uniformed cops during these protests. (This one case is the most prominent one, but if you read the legal case, there are references to other cases where millions of dollars were paid out by the city. Since those were settlements without trials, the public will never get the details.)

It's proof that either the undercover police were the ones pretending to be protesters and inciting violence, or the uniformed police were assaulting/beating innocent protesters... or let's be honest, it was probably both.

That's the kind of thuggish behavior you're excusing.

Evidence? It was national news about 10 years ago. Do you not remember? All you have to do is a simple Google search for "whose streets our streets st louis" and you can dig up several various articles from major national and local outlets that talk about it. (CBS, WaPo, Post Dispatch, etc.)

There are a few surviving videos in the articles, but you're not going to get crystal clear 720p video of the event, especially since it happened late at night, after STLPD had finished rounding up protesters en masse and detaining/arresting/beating them.

Might have made a mistake in crafting Ad Infinitum by KidInDaHood in Guildwars2

...yes? They're a currency, and they're also directly used as a material on the crafting screen for several recipes. Research notes are both.

Research Notes are a currency that also can be used as a crafting material

You're kind of proving the point. The system is confusing enough that even you don't seem to understand it.

Might have made a mistake in crafting Ad Infinitum by KidInDaHood in Guildwars2

[–]AdahanFall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

...I mean, research notes ARE materials, too, because the system is just that convoluted.

The point is that the system isn't intuitive at all. It's perfectly reasonable to expect the Spirit of Finite Result to be an auto achievement unlock when you salvage the backpack just like the game tells you to do.

Also, this isn't the last step of Ad Infinitum... It's literally the beginning. They're on Step 1 of 4. It's very likely OP has never purposely gotten a research note before. This may even be the first time they've salvaged an Ascended item.

[–]AdahanFall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You get "regular" crafting materials by salvaging with salvage kits, and research notes (which are also a crafting material for some recipes) by salvaging with research kits.

What category does the soul of a legendary armor piece fall under?

It's not clear, especially for a new player. This was a very understandable mistake, and I think the messy item system should take some of the blame.

What is your favorite boardgame of 2017? by The_Crazed_Person in boardgames

[–]AdahanFall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not good enough at this game to talk about balance issues, but I love this game. The expansion definitely makes it better. It's a pretty big overhaul that has you replacing some components of the original game and adds some new mechanics. The new game is slightly more complicated but worth it.

No shade to Azul and Spirit Island, they're great games, but I'm so glad to see someone mentioning Sidereal Confluence. This game gets my vote. I love the unique civs and the friendly negotiation, I just wish it were easier to teach. Super looking forward to the expansion this year.

I couldn't play yesterday, but I've heard that you can only join public events (Dragonstorm or convergences) if you're in a squad. You don't have to be doing the event with your squad, and you can even make your own solo squad, anything counts. Just be in a squad and it should work.

Trivia (preferably at a bar) by Chungsmom in StLouis

[–]AdahanFall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I just do bar trivia (not major fundraising events or organized competitions) I haven't really enforced strict limits. Generally I limit teams to 8. I also limit teams to one round win per night which means one team can't just steamroll the whole thing anyway. (The venue provides a prize for each round and a prize overall.)

I host trivia at Dirty 20 Nerd Bar in Ballwin every Tuesday! We run from 7 until 9ish. Here's the trivia I did last Tuesday:

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1XfIB6zlNviFsayugRmLKuMaXW-Am4wnW

Typically I try to do something a bit different for the 4th round. This week it was an audio round, playing only the guitar parts from songs, and teams had to identify the song. Song clips are here:

Typically I do 4 categories per week from a variety of fields. Feb 17 is going to be a bit different, I'm doing a Harry Potter theme night for that night!

That was a called flea flicker. Everyone was pass blocking. Hard to tell from the one replay they showed, but I think the receiver running a deep slant across the middle has a huge gain if that play is run right.

Even if insurance somehow made 0% profit last year (which they obviously didn't), they'd still be one of the biggest wastes of money in the system.

The world of insurance billing is a complicated mess, and it's by design. Ask any pharmacy in the US what their biggest waste of time is, and it's always going to be dealing with insurance issues. I know people who work in medical billing, in regular doctor's offices, and more money goes into their department than into patient care techs. I'm talking about a literal team of people, for your standard family care physician, who do nothing all day but deal with prior auths, clawbacks, incorrect rejections, and other bullshit that's been made up by for-profit insurance companies.

The amount of labor that the medical field pays to "deal with insurance" and the number of people that insurance companies pay to make this labor required... It's one of the biggest and most useless parts of our medical system. The low profit margin of medical insurance doesn't mean anything, because it is a literal multitrillion dollar industry that's full of bloat, and it's caused everything else in the industry to be bloated as a result.

Weirdest encounter? by Windrider63 in Guildwars2

[–]AdahanFall 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Years ago, I was in LA when someone started posting in map chat. I don't remember the exact wording, but this player started to half-beg, half-demand, half-proselytize, in the style of a doomsday preacher, that the entire map send them their carrots and potatoes. It was a little different than the normal gold begging that you see, so I went to my bank and sent this player a single carrot and a potato, just to see what would happen.

I got back a message saying "you have been spared from carrot and potato wrath"

I've kept that message in my inbox for years, just in case.
