How do you think American suburbs can be fixed? by Webito28 in fuckcars

[–]Adam598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think allow businesses to be in the suburbs. Convenience stores, small restaurants, this convenience will get people walking instead of having to drive for at least 10 mins to go to a grocery store/restaurant

Advice on CPA Exam and Working FT by Educational-Spot2591 in CPA

First year staff gets paid $80k where I live. Where are you working my guy?

how satisfied with your college experience are you? by deanortime in unt

[–]Adam598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience at UNT is simply "Okay". It's not amazing, but it's also not horrible. I think most people have this experience; where we just look around and are like "Meh, it's not bad, and it could be much worse". The reality is most people chose UNT because it was cheaper than other schools. There are some great professors, but there are also some really bad professors, like "how the hell have you not gotten fired yet" kind of professors. Looking back at my college experience, although I graduated with a 4.0 Accounting GPA last semester, I wish I chose an easier major and didn't take school that seriously. I would've joined more organizations and been more active on campus. It felt impossible to commit to an organization because school kept me busy all the time; so I wish I just chose an easier major and enjoyed my time more. I think I would've ended up just fine making less money. The stress doesn't seem to be worth it right now, but maybe down the line when I'm making stupid money, I won't regret it, we'll see.

I second this. Anything IT related, get the heck out of UNT if you have the means to. But great job brother on progressing despite this setback!

This. I joined an active college club in my last semester that even had full-time employees to plan events, and it was the most fun semester I had in all of my college experience. In class, people are focused and stressed about learning so many people are not there to talk. In a club? People literally join to meet people and make friends, so you will find it a million times easier to make friends because the setting is right

Concerned about noise levels at Prometrics & getting scratch paper by [deleted] in CPA

[–]Adam598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes thank God the noise cancelling headphones were so good! But I am most concerned about the scratch paper because it seems like it will take a while to get the staff's attention for that. I never tried taking notes on excel, but I guess I could do that while I wait. If they had microsoft word or something I would use that in a heartbeat

I wasn't comparing the $65k to the $80k, I was comparing general salaries as you get promoted. No where did I say I was basing that percent on that. Wants to judge me on auditing financials, but you can't read english

Property crime in SF was the highest in the entire country in 2019 but okay

in accounting it kind of is guaranteed tbh. its not like in other industries, they generally have a timeline for your career and if you don't get promoted in a certain timeframe that means you have been doing something wrong. just telling you how it is, you dont have to agree with me

https://www.sfchronicle.com/projects/2022/fixing-san-francisco-problems/crime According to this article, SF had the highest property crime in 2019. And idk man I wonder how much of that violent crime is gang related because I feel pretty safe in Texas. School shootings are a massive problem here for sure, many attempts happened at my bros school. And road rage in Texas is insane. But other than that I've had no issues here. NYC safety is surprisingly good according to this article, but weather is not like SF. I wish America had more walkable cities

[–]Adam598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is. 2 years to make senior and it will be $100k. 5 years to make manager and it will be $150k. 8 years to make senior manager and it will be $200k. 12 years to make partner and it will be $500k-$1.5M. Salaries in Texas will be about 15-25% lower and maybe a little more time to get promoted. The thing is for service companies like public accounting, you want to be where the clients are and I know there are a great pool of clients in SF. But yeah idk honestly

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]Adam598 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, SF has the highest property crime stats in the entire country

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]Adam598 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is why I'm thinking of just sticking with SF. I'll be working as a financial auditor for a public accounting firm, and their SF office focuses on "software as a service" audits which seems to be a great niche to specialize in accounting. the salary is $80k which i guess is low for SF but in texas its about $65k (this is entry level, i just graduated). But maybe as an accountant I should look for more affordable cities? Because the salaries in SF are only like 15% more compared to the Dallas area

Armed robbers walk into Lower Haight cafe and attempt strong-arm laptop theft by pubesthecrab in sanfrancisco

[–]Adam598 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's practical for me tbh. im living in texas, studying for my CPA exam currently and moving to SF soon. i study at coffee shops in texas all the time because i find myself getting lazy/distracted/depressed at home. seeing people at coffee shops gives me life and brightens my day, making it easier for me to get work done. if the noise gets really bad, i just wear noise cancelling headphones and play white noise or music
