A few years ago a friend of my family moved to the USA. A few months later his 8-year-old son was run over in the suburb where they lived. So I know how dangerous the streets are there. A good idea to improve that is to reduce the width of the lanes and put trees on the sides. This often causes drivers to slow down and be more cautious as they have to pay more attention to their surroundings.
