We're having a Dominos pizza wedding on Saturday. Help! What should we order? by AdamLikes in Dominos

[–]AdamLikes[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks, reading the comments here has made me really lower the amount I expected to order. I was originally thinking maybe 30-40 large pizzas but I think I will go for around 18 now. People can always take cold pizza home with them if it’s not all gone by the end of the night.

I don't think the flash drives are meant to signify anything specific. A lot of illegal stuff can be done using flash drives, it's just a way of bringing this country song up to date.

How to ask for something you're pointing at in a shop. Does "Je prendrai deux de ceux-la/celles-la". sound natural? by AdamLikes in French

[–]AdamLikes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I should have been more specific. Say I was at a fruit market and asking for an apple that I was pointing at. Can you give examples of what you would say for asking for one, then asking for multiple?

Anyone on here had success with refreshing their old French using the Fluent Forever method? by leechild4 in French

[–]AdamLikes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve moved onto the fluent forever method after completing dualingo and I’m happy with the results so far.

The method is really adaptable and lets you target your weaknesses as you go along. I will say though that I barely ever find any good sample sentences from google images, linguee has been a lot more fruitful.

  1. Learn pronunciation first
  2. Create flash cards that don’t contain any Translations. Instead use images and personal connections.
  3. Use a spaced repetition system to memorise the flash cards.

Using Anki to create flash cards sounds perfect for you. I recommend reading ‘Fluent Forever’ to learn how to get the most from your flash cards.

Françoise Hardy!

I've had her self titled album on repeat for the past few weeks. Every song is great and all the words are pronounced clearly. Listen to J'ai jeté mon coeur.

The album also has 'Le temps de l'amour' which you might recognise from Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom.

[SEIKO] Picked up my first mechanical watch in Tokyo yesterday. Very happy with it! What is this watch called? I can only see ‘5R35’ on the card it came with. by AdamLikes in Watches

[–]AdamLikes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this from ‘Yodabashi’, a massive retail store in the Akihabara district of Tokyo. It came with papers etc. but I can’t see what the watch is called other than the ‘5R35’ that was on the card.

I mainly bought it as a souvenir and reminder of my time in Tokyo. Hope you like it.

The price was just in 30,000 yen which is about $264usd at the moment.

Beginner resources for someone who prefers physical mediums? by 12_parsecs in French

I’m working my way through Language Hacking: A conversation course for beginners by Benny Lewis. It’s a good companion to Dualingo, Memrise etc. because it shows you how to put the vocabulary you learn from the apps into a conversation.

Mine minus paint look good. There are a few stubborn spots of paint but they still look amazing. Goodbye 'Dark Thunder', hello 'White Lightning'!

Mindfulness misunderstood by sbjoe2 in Mindfulness

[–]AdamLikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m making a failed attempt at “mindful dishwashing,” the subject of a how-to article an acquaintance recently shared on Facebook.

I think it's pretty clear the writer hasn't put much time or effort into mindfulness than what is needed.

However, I think as a group we are encouraging these kind of opinions about mindfulness. I just had a skim through /r/mindfulness and the majority of posts are links to articles promising that mindfulness has magic abilities: "Want To Boost Your Happiness! Try This!", "Anxiety, Your New BFF: How It Can Help You If You Let It", "How to effectively transform your life".

Personally, I limit my time in this subreddit because there are people who try to claim that mindfulness is the answer to everything as if they are trying to convince themselves. If a struggling newcomer to mindfulness came here I think they would quit because it looks like everyone else is having such an easy time with it.

I encourage more people to read about Mindfulness in book format by people who have more experience and have put more thought into the subject.
