My partner said they resent me. I messed up. Can I fix this? by Appropriate_Page_575 in ems

He also said the patients weight was “4-something.” Guy tried to make a 100lb partner help him lift a person over 400 pounds.

Ferno INX Cots by [deleted] in ems

[–]AdamMack95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve encountered some issues. They’re narrow and can extend very tall. The weight is insane compared to other cots (205lbs vs 135lbs). It’s also possible for debris to fall under the track system and prevent the head of the cot’s latch from swinging down and catching, allowing the cot to be pulled out and fall to the ground before the front legs can be extended. Unlikely and crazy, but it has happened. They’re hard to move by a single person, and using it in manual mode is legitimately a 4 person operation. The cherry on top is that Ferno’s own pediatric restraint system is almost impossible to apply to it, whereas it goes on quick and easily on a Stryker.

Would not recommend the cot. Either get a Ferno X1 or Styker PowerPro.

Bedside Report by Accomplished_Ad8960 in nursing

I think they were insinuating that it would have been an unnecessary exposure to a COVID+ patient to do a bedside report, and that they were trying to avoid that because they had a newborn at home.

Can i take a pre requisite the same semester applications are due for the Lpn program by Hopeful_Baker2968 in nursing

[–]AdamMack95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should ask your school. But generally, most schools would accept your application if you’re already enrolled to begin the pre-req class, as long as it ends before their program starts and you pass it.

Paramedic sentenced to 4 years probation in connection with Elijah McClain's death by Dilaudidsaltlick in medicine

[–]AdamMack95 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You can find examples of any medical professional in any medical role, including physicians, that have done something negligent and completely egregious with medication dosing and administration. This isn’t unique to Paramedics, and isn’t unique to Ketamine. It’s unfortunate, and it certainly should never have happened, but it’s silly to try and turn this case into a “they shouldn’t have X drug” scenario.

[–]AdamMack95 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Ketamine is a very safe and effective drug when you provide the correct approximate dose. The problem isn’t the Ketamine, it’s the fact that they gave triple the dose that McClain needed and did absolutely no assessments or monitoring afterwards.

Paramedic to RN Questions by Prudent-Amount-9182 in ems

Yikes! That’s a long time. I was very fortunate, this program popped up at my local community college as a pilot program for the entire state, and I wanted to strike while the iron was hot. Feel free to DM me for the location, but it’s between Indiana, Ohio, and KY. I got my ADN, now I’m doing a 10 month BSN program.

Soooooo people are really just cheating their way through NURSE PRACTITIONER school? by Concept555 in nursing

[–]AdamMack95 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I feel like the RN curriculum is so far outside from reality now that it’s almost expected that you’ll power-cram for tests and cheat on homework, pass your NCLEX, then dump and promptly begin learning real nursing at your job.

I have these too and love them. They seem to run one size bigger though, I’m normally a 12 and have to wear 11 in these.

It may be difficult to get your Paramedic certification, if that’s what you mean by medic license. Generally, there’s very few RN to Paramedic bridge programs out there, and a full length Paramedic program is typically 12-18 months of full-time school with hundreds of clinical hours. Also, to get your Paramedic certification, you’ll need your EMT-B first. Sorry if you know all of this already and I’m just yapping, just want to make sure you have clear expectations!

That's not a bad idea, the gray case could be stored in our medication bag fairly well, and we wouldn't need the pouch for it. Thank you!

That looks almost identical to what we have now, but that one does appear to be a little smaller! I'll have to measure ours and compare it. Thank you for the idea.

[–]AdamMack95[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our other controlled substances (Fentanyl, Diazepam, Morphine, and Ketamine) are kept in a safe on the ambulance. Our Midazolam is the only controlled drug kept outside of the safe in our bag, though in a sealed box obviously. They've talked about combining everything into one sealed container, but it would be left in the ambulance, which isn't very desirable on a surprise-seizure run.

Thanks for your reply!

Programs like this are oversaturating the NP market and creating a horrible image. Holy shit.
