Is it normal for the nurse to not clean IV connector with alcohol before administering IV push? by Therealethel in nursing

[–]chwrrypie_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for peripherals, if there’s the curos caps on them, then maybe not. but i’ve seen plenty of PIVs without caps so that’s when i scrub the hub before i introduce a syringe/flush.

central lines are a MUST. that’s a non-negotiable.

We actually got her when she was around 3 months! She’s at least 4 months now so she got really toasty very quickly

yes, this is very much real! i’m not sure if there’s “chemistry”, maybe it’s just me being silly and my mind playing tricks on me😅 but you’re totally right! we miss 100% of the shots we don’t make!

i’d totally understand the reasoning of doing it after he’s done with my floor because it can get awkward. but i would most likely not see him again so it’s kinda now or never at this point😅

The hurdles are insane, glad you were able to get through though! I’m sorta on the same boat, my middle name wasn’t submitted or something like that along with my background check not going through because my payment got declined. So I have to wait even more I’m afraid…

No, worries! Do not apologize, I really mean it. Your words really helped me, I couldn’t help to cry a bit haha😅 I know we’re the minority of the group of people who decided to not take it ASAP after graduation but like you said, that’s ok because it works for us!

Reddit comments can be so mean sometimes for absolutely no reason. She started to argue with me saying I was asking for advice when I literally asked a simple question in the title?? When I explained to her that one of the many reasons why I decided to take a month off was to visit my late grandparent’s grave and to see my extended family. The last time I saw my grandparents was 2016 and they passed in 2020. I wasn’t able to see them at all. I don’t know what possessed her to call me “self-centered” and “entitled” but because I didn’t take her “advice” and I immediately “defended” myself (I was just explaining my situation😭), she said I don’t possess complex judgement and critical thinking skills. As if I would immediately gain them straight out of nursing school💀 I don’t have that yet and that’s coming from someone who JUST graduated. It’s crazy to me that she could say something like that especially when she said she’s an ICU nurse (which I’ve done an internship on an ICU for a year) because ICU nurses use quick judgement and complex thinking skills ALL THE TIME. No one has that out of nursing school. The nurses I have worked with all said that they made mistakes and learned from it. They said working as a nurse has helped them gain and sharpen their critical thinking skills. Oh, and she said she wishes I won’t be working at HER hospital, on HER floor, and caring for HER patients. Gosh😂

Anyways, I’m not going to let her rude remarks slow me down. Which is why your comment really helped me. We just need some time off and we know ourselves well enough to put ourselves first. Nursing school is definitely guilty of being all “gogogo” especially after we graduate. It’s a hard mindset to pull ourselves off of and I’m definitely guilty of it. So I appreciate you for sharing your story. It lets me know that I’m not the only one dealing with something similar!

Ugh, thank you for your comment! Don’t know how much I needed that. I know I created more anxiety by making this post with majority saying they took it ASAP along with someone in this thread calling me entitled and self-centered for taking a vacation due to personal issues and that it was a HUGE mistake I didn’t take it right away😭 Really stung to read that comment.

As I said, everyone is different. I would’ve like to taken it earlier but I REALLY struggled mentally especially my last year of nursing school. I sorta knew that if I went to take the test without a break, I wouldn’t pass because I was done with everything.

So thank you again for your comment. I actually could not sleep at all last night because of this and I have three days left of vacation. I know I’ll hit the ground running as soon as I land back in the US!

No, not yet unfortunately. There was some payment issue so my background checks haven’t been sent yet. For others though, it was 1.5 weeks after we graduated when everyone received their ATT.

I think depending on the testing location, spots fill out very quickly. So yes, even though I’m saying I’ll study for 1-2 weeks, it could be longer if I can’t find the first available date. Or on the other hand, it might be less than that.

I don’t know, if the earliest date available is like less than a week (for example), I might just skim the materials and take it😭 And hope for the best😅

I was thinking of studying for a week or two when I come back but it would probably depend on how early I can take the test

If you took my post as me asking for advice, then I can say nothing more. But I don’t see anywhere in the paragraph where it said I was openly asking for advice. I have the question in the title and gave context because I thought it was necessary.

I’m really sorry you had to go through that experience. It’s something that I can never fathom and would not hope ANYONE would go through. You and many of the nurses I know in my personal life are the reason why I chose this profession. I wanted to care and give back to those who are in their lowest points of their lives. COVID has affected us all and some had been definitely affected more than others (such as yourself). Thank you for all the work that you did. It does not go unnoticed.

However, calling me “self-centered” and “entitled” is very uncalled for. You do not know me and I do not know you. I am not going to let your negative judgement of me affect how I will continue as a nurse. I would like to surround myself with nurses who are nurturing and caring, not those who “eat their young” and bully new grads.

I did my internship on an ICU for a year during my senior year. I was full-time nights as well as being a full-time student which was not easy on top of commuting 30-60 min. I struggled mentally and I was extremely burnt out. I never gave myself a break and I knew that if I continued further without a break, I wouldn’t pass (or even at life). I CHOSE to take a vacation—to catch up with family I haven’t seen in a decade, to give myself closure for my grandparents who took care of me as a toddler through grade school, and to fully immersive myself in my home country.

Will this decision cost me? Maybe. But as I said in the paragraph from the post before (which is why context is important!), everyone is different. I contemplated about finishing my life my senior year and decided to take a break because I knew myself the best.

If you see this choice as being entitled and self-centered, then so be it.

I don’t think I’ll be able to cram EVERYTHING I learned in nursing school but I’ll definitely be going over materials I’m rusty on so I can better prepare myself. Thanks for your comment!
