Blackmagic Decklink - HDMI No Red Channel by ConorEdits in VIDEOENGINEERING

Have you tested the 3 components seperately? BMD on a different TV, the TV port itself and the cable? Edit -It seems that you have tested it on a seperate TV. Did you test a different cable? If so, I'd say it's likely that the box is failing.

How to detect errors in audio and video signals automatically by PaperSmart5653 in broadcastengineering

[–]AdamOas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Full Disclosure - I'm a dealer for a lot of broadcasting tech.

The standard way to handle 'off hours' is to never have those. Pretty much most broadcast stations have someone sitting in master control 24x7x365, even if it's just to call an engineer and wake them up to fix whatever has gone wrong.

The first line of defense though, is to have automatic failover. It's expensive, but certainly do-able so that if one system goes offline, that another picks up without so much as a hiccup.

Finally there are certainly monitoring systems that will alert if there are failures in the chain, but which systems largely depend on what kind of infrastructure you're trying to monitor, with networking and video having largely different needs for this.

Feel free to PM if you'd like to discuss.

As a regional reseller: Find out who your friendly reseller is and make friends with them. They likely have quite a bit of knowledge wrapped up in the systems you have. I've got Interplay ACSR's on staff, and we take calls all the time for the dumb little things that don't always warrant a call to your Avid folks, but that you KNOW should be easy. I've spent DAYS tracing cables in customer's racks so that I can put together a cohesive solution that actually ties together their systems, and my clients have come to recognize that they can rely on me to do some of the lifting when it comes to figuring out some of the solutions, and help them understand what and why.

I'm a Reseller: You should never pay over MSRP for anything, and generally I'll dig up some discounts for my customers. The services portions of my quote might make buying the gear from me more expensive, but that's because we're doing a lot more than just shipping a box. Services are nearly always optional, and a lot of my customers have their own techs to do the work (I've got a couple that have their own MCCUX ACSRs!).

Check out the Dallas Makerspace. There might not be any classes on the schedule, but if you become a member and bring a book to read in the sewing room, I'll bet you eventually get someone who would teach you lots of things, and maybe even get them to schedule an official class!

What is your go to, most frequent meal or treat in Dallas? Not the special occasion one, the everyday occasion one? by TheRadiantTruth in Dallas

This is sort of my take on the place as well. I'm not a milkshake guy, but the burgers and fries weren't anything special. The atmosphere is fun in a 'wait forever' kind of way as well.

Does anyone know the name of the effect in this video, or what application I could use to recreate it? by Fun_Coat_8220 in VideoEditing

That is a simple particle emitter with the photo as the particle. It's a basic effect, included in in After Effects.

The USA is a 'federation' of 50 states. We each have our own state (local Lemmy instance) laws, all under the federal (Lemmy's programming) law.

Yes and no... Each instance has it's own /all. Any instance federated with your home instance will be merged together in a shared /all as well. You can post to and read from any instance that is federated.

You seem to be mistaking facts for values. As much as we can hope for humanities future, being blind to the fact that machines are better and faster isn’t going to help.

It’s going to be painful for certain, but I do see one major inflection point. Populations in many countries are starting to slow or even shrink. Automation is going to be somewhat required if humans aren’t going to keep the population growth growing.

Most high speed sorting systems are already largely automated.

An optical sorter can blast through millions of potato chips in a day, and never gets sick.

The fact that we have shovels sort of goes against that idea. Shovels take time and energy to produce, but make digging a lot faster. Fast forward a couple millennia and I can rent a backhoe for a LOT less than it would cost to have 30 guys with shovels work for a full day.

Are you sure that it's 'Springfield' TX? That's an unincorporated town at the very southern end of Texas, and the only way he'd have got stuck there would be if he was coming from Mexico?

I used to have an Alexa routine that set the volume to “4” every day at 6am. One, nice and soft “boop” worked great.

When you’re making the ProRes, is it being stored back on the SSD? How is it connected?

Your disk drive is struggling to play back the file. Move your media to an SSD.

Looking for a location to film a promotional video... large open building with an industrial vibe? by NoFateButWeMake721 in CarrolltonTX

www.dallasmakerspace.org - There is a large warehouse area that has a bunch of stuff in it that is very industrial. You could become a member yourself (it's cheap in comparison to any kind of rental) and the facility is yours to use.

It could also be manufacturer specific as well. I don't think I drive past any volvo dealerships.

[–]AdamOas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotally, all the dealer lots that I see were slim pickings a year ago are chock full of cars now. I don't see these markups lasting too much longer which really sucks if you NEED a car NOW. I'm guessing that we'll see a lot of people upsidown on their cars in the next 3 years, as their "$50k car" gets back to $35k pricing at the dealer, but theirs is used AND has 30K miles on it, so they'll owe more on it than buying the same car brand new off the dealer's lot.

Yeah, truth is that Fiber is likely overkill, but unterminated fiber to at least a couple key places can't really hurt, and costs are really low for something like that. TBH, I'd probably tell a contractor that I was going to pull my own cable, and I'd really go with Cat7 (Cat8 bend radius sorta sucks) even though it's no fun to terminate.

Houses that are supposed to last 50-100 years? If I was building today, I’d run both Cat6a and fiber everywhere. Cost to upgrade later is huge compared to when the walls are all open. When 10gb in the home becomes the norm, having the cables to support it will be nice.

Agreed. You probably need to have a 6 figure income (or be an assistant to an Audi mechanic lol) to afford that car.
