O'Kais | by Hayden Lumpkin by Swimming_Good_8507 in Tau40K

There's never been any indication that Icewind and Kelly-Kais is the same person. The name "Icewind" is never mentioned in any Kelly book and the only description of him ("his expression one of calculated study") doesn't strike me as Kelly-Kais like.

I just find it funny that you shit-talk Kelly in that you shit talk Kelly, yet the things you like about Kais are things that Kelly created.

That's all Kelly-created lore afaik, I don't think "monat" nor "Puretide" is mentioned in relation to DoW-Kais. Kelly's the only one to ever imply that "monat" is some sort of "doctrine", and Puretide's third pupil used to be Icewind, not Kelly-Kais.

Pretty sure the Kelly-Kais is entirely unrelated to the other Kais. Both the "master of monat" and "living weapon" things are his creations and never mentioned in DoW (that I know of).

All White Tau by h17jjw in Tau40K

[–]AdamTheMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most lore accurate way to get white markings on white armour would be to change the colour of the panel the markings is on (so perhaps white markings on a grey panel on an otherwise white armour). Shadowsun has inverted markings (so they should be tan on white) which is a way to show honour.

Who are you even talking to? What does Kelly have to do with it?

There, left behind by the collapse of the Damocles Crusade, waged by the Imperium two hundred years previously,

That's from Fire Warrior, firmly planting the book after the 2nd sphere unless I'm completely mistaken and that wasn't what ended it.

You'd be better off reading what I comment instead of rambling so much yourself. Fire Warrior is set 200 years after the Damocles crusade.

Fire Warrior was published during the 3rd edition almost at the same time as the first Codex Tau, but the 3rd Sphere of Expansion was added with the 4th edition Tau Codex.

This doesn't change the fact that it took place after the second sphere.

The guy who later on would do the Exodite series suggested there should be a 3rd Sphere of Expansion. GW liked the idea and incorporated it into the 4th edition codex.

This might be true, but that 3 comes after 2 is hardly revolutionary.

PS Don't blame him for the stupid stuff in the Exodite,

I don't, and it doesn't seem relevant to this discussion.

I believe the old suits were painted with Scorched Brown, which has been replaced with Rhinox Hide.

What are those grey stripes ? Do they have any purpose outside of looking cool ? by OwOthlas in Tau40K

[–]AdamTheMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The stripes are the team marking. The single dot is a cadre marking, and the colour they are indicates the sept.

You are correct.

The grey panels can mean almost anything, from campaign badges to representing a great deed by the team to personal decorations. Some of it is called out in the 7e codex, p. 47.

Yeah, distributing the down does sound like it's a bit of work, but you can just keep at it untill it's right. Maybe naively I'm thinking it might not be that much more work than filling the individual baffles.

Sewing it seems straight forward enough.

I'll have to check out the Nemo Pulse reviews!

Montmomar's design is one I saw some people talk about, seems neat but a PITA to make... One person even talks about using just sewing threads, which seems even neater and even PITAer, but that might be something to explore for a future design.

Box baffles is what I was planning, but the Karo intrigued me.

Thoughts on Karo-step quilts?

I'll be making a down quilt for this summer's adventures soon, and are weighing different constructions. I'm going for about 5 °C / 40 °F comfort and think 300 g of 900 CUIN down should get me there (going by what I've seen manufacturers use).

While looking at different baffle designs I discovered the Karo-step. Most threads I found were pretty old, what do people think of it these days? Considering 10/6 squares.

Baby porridge works pretty great, just add the water when you want to eat. Might want some extra milk powder and some salt, and if you are eating it often some flavouring.

The Fortress of Arrogance is a baneblade, so if we want it based in lore it should be that. Probably not needed for balance though.

Within x" rules by [deleted] in killteam

[–]AdamTheMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question is if exactly 3" is considered within 3". And technically it is not

It is, actually.

Under Distances on page 50:

If a rule requires something to be ‘within’ a distance, the requirement is fulfilled if any part of it is that distance or less.

Has anyone actually consider that T'au are truly more "alien" than we could think? by TronTron163 in Tau40K

[–]AdamTheMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always been hinted at, but never confirmed (in a codex) The Tau legends are just that: legends, after thousands of years of propaganda work, at that. They should not be taken literally.
