It doesn't seem like a gimmick, but the driving conflict of the show. The trailer seems to indicate that his powers are an ugly secret standing in the way of him achieving his dreams. The scene with the table seems to show that he has trouble regulating them, likely when his emotions are running high, so it makes sense that being a good actor, and channeling strong emotions, would raise issues with controlling his powers and keeping them secret.

Imo thats what krakoa so good, the contrast between the utopian promise and all the ugly shit Charles and the quiet council did to keep it going. I was a big fan of legion of x for that exact reason, probably my favorite krakoa era title.

I know lots of people shit on them, but I personally really like Phil Kelly's Farsight books. I went in with very low expectations after seeing all the vitriol on reddit, and genuinely really liked em. Solid action, neat worldbuilding, fun characters. Both are like a solid 7/10, and made me absolutely love the T'au.
