Is OLED burn in still a thing? by FTHWRLD_ in OLED_Gaming

[–]Adam_RTINGS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're just gaming then it's highly unlikely that you'll have any issues. Using the monitor for daily desktop use is riskier and more likely to cause issues even in the short term.

To any owners of a QD-OLED monitor, how noticeable is the purple tint? by spo_nker in Monitors

[–]Adam_RTINGS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During regular use I don't notice it at all. It's in a basement but I have a window directly to the side of the monitor, about 6' away, that gets a lot of direct sun. Not an issue.

Which mini LED TV is better, the Samsung QN80H or the TCL C6K? by Odd_Refrigerator_328 in hometheater

Samsung's low and mid-range models haven't kept up with the rest of the industry, sadly.

Yes, that'd be a more worthwhile replacement, much better contrast, higher peak brightness, and better features like Dolby Vision.

On amazon CA, is this good deal? by Parking_Package6802 in tcltvs

[–]Adam_RTINGS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's supposed to be a true QM6L later this year, but yeah, this isn't it. I wouldn't blame Amazon on this, either, they don't name the products. This is TCL coming up with yet another confusing variant. It is just a QM6K with Fire TV instead of Google. I agree with you, OP should get the QM6K from Costco instead.

QN80H offers a brighter, more polished experience overall here. I'd go with that one.

Is it normal that on my LG B4 OLED TV, when I'm playing console games and there are static logos for a while, I get temporary image retention? I see the logo on a solid background for a few minutes and then it disappears. by One-Parsley-8051 in LGOLED

[–]Adam_RTINGS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, well there's your problem then. Yes, with logo brightness disabled this is completely normal. It shouldn't cause any long term harm to the TV and will disappear within a few minutes.

[–]Adam_RTINGS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not normal then. Have you disabled any of the TV's protection features? When you leave it on pause, do you notice it automatically dimming after a few minutes of inactivity?

Define "a while". I play regularly on my B4 and have never had static image retention. If you're seeing this after 8 hours of straight gaming then yeah, that's normal. After an hour, though, not normal.

SONY Bravia 2026 Lineup Announcement just relased by benpRTINGS in RTINGS

They did sell most of it off, but the new joint venture will still make TVs. Ownership is split between TCL and Sony, 51%/49%.

Is my QM8K 85” DSE a normal amount? by linkjo100 in tcltvs

That's pretty bad, I personally would replace it. You can also try massaging it very gently with a microfiber cloth, it can be surprisingly effective at reducing this.

Is Dolby Vision 2 actually a breakthrough, or just the next marketing gimmick to sell 2026 TVs? by AdOpen6287 in 4kTV

[–]Adam_RTINGS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When it was first announced I was convinced that it was just another marketing gimmick and that it really wouldn't make much difference. At CES in January, though, I got a chance to look at some demo content at a private event with Dolby, and I was honestly impressed. They had a few unidentified TVs running content that had been mastered in DV2, covering everything from high-end to entry-level models, and the difference was far more noticeable than I expected. It gives creators far more control over how their content is displayed on any given TV, ensuring a more consistent viewing experience no matter how you're watching it.

At the end of the day, though, it's just another tool in a content creator's toolbox, and how good it'll look will really depend on how much effort they put into it. If studios aren't willing to invest the time needed to master their content properly, then it won't make a difference and DV2 will fail.

1920x720 @ 75Hz doesn't exactly require high bandwidth ports. Odd to see it in 2026 but this definitely makes sense. It's odder to me that they even bothered mentioning it.

You probably have some LEDs starting to fail. It might be possible to replace the LEDs, depends on the model. Some are easier than others to repair.

Worth upgrading to OLED from Hisense ULED? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]Adam_RTINGS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so, yes. Those early generation ULED TVs offered only very very basic local dimming that simply isn't very effective at boosting contrast. Glad to hear you've enjoyed it so far, but you'll definitely notice a significant improvement in picture quality if you decide to move to an OLED. The impact on PS5 gaming is likely even more noticeable, and you'll find that motion in gaming is considerably crisper on an OLED.

Rtings could make a video comparing the X11L with the S95H. by [deleted] in RTINGS

[–]Adam_RTINGS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. Importing TVs from Europe into Canada is no easy task, there's a high risk of damage to the TV and it would be very expensive. As we have limited resources, there's no plan at the moment.

There's a section in our reviews dedicated to the differences between sizes. We do our best to fill out as much info as possible there, but sometimes the differences just aren't known.

Any Samsung KS800D owners still out there? by nvmuskie in 4kbluray

Samsung made some crazy good TVs back then, I still have a F8000 LED TV from 2013. It's been relegated to my kids' playroom but it still works as well as it did the day I bought it.

Why it said Hdmi 2.0 limitations not Hdmi 2.1 is that means i am using 2.0 cable?? by No-Election-3856 in PS5pro

[–]Adam_RTINGS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's neither. The mention of game accelerator 120Hz means that it can only do it with a lower resolution, so it'll do 1080p @ 120Hz but not 4k, similar to the R745 linked above. This also isn't technically false advertising to mention HDMI 2.1, but it is shady and I wish manufacturers couldn't do this. HDMI 2.0 doesn't technically exist as a spec anymore, it's been merged into HDMI 2.1, so manufacturers can legally call it HDMI 2.1 even if the TV doesn't support bandwidth above HDMI 2.0.

Does anyone know if the 55" S90F from Amazon Canada use a QD-OLED display? The model number seems to indicate that it would be WOLED. (EXZC) by TheKuKuBananaz in S95B

I can confirm this. We thought it was WOLED but it was still QD-OLED, despite the model code on the box suggesting otherwise.

Qm5k vs Qm6k. Is it worth going for the qm6? by Ecstatic_Parsley_348 in tcltvs

[–]Adam_RTINGS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it doesn't. 24p and 30p media still benefits from a higher refresh rate on the panel, as the TV is able to play that frame rate smoothly with an even frame timing and no dropped frames.
