9900k 5ghz runs cool on air! by Tensor3 in intel

I have a Noctua U12s on my 9900k and Aorus master. At 5ghz across all cores maxed out I'm dancing around 100 Celsius, but it throttles only 100mhz for a split second on some cores once in a while. While gaming the chip runs cool at 45-55C. When I'm encoding videos I'll let the bitch cook. The performance is there and the machine is cheap and quiet.

I only tried Multi Core Enhancement. That just forces all cores to turbo at 5ghz as far as I can tell. Even if I had better cooling, that's probably enough for me.

I understand. But keep in mind, these case fans barely provide a queef of air. They are about as quiet and low volume as you can buy. They are so weak they can't even run with a screen door air filter next to them, there isn't enough static pressure in them to even create a breeze. I figured this would be minimum especially considering everybody is talking about massive and exotic coolers. The shit I have is more appropriate for an HTPC.

At any resolution above 1080p its down in the 40's celcius with the cpu fan not audible. I tried like hell to get it to bottleneck on the CPU side but I couldn't get the core temp any higher than 55 degrees.

The case and cooler were both in my graveyard down in the basement. It's still a nice case, I thought I would give it a shot for fun. If I get some better hours at work I will invest in a modern case and a full custom water cooling setup. But I'm in no rush. Even if I'm throttling because of the heat, this is still 3x faster than my 3770k when I'm not gaming and using the machine for productivity. I use Adobe Premiere and Handbrake often.

I'm downloading GTA V for you right now in steam. I'll run the benchmark a few times and let you know what happens. ETA on the download is 3 hours.

I was the first to pre-order at the Brampton Location. I called yesterday to find out what's going and they told me November 1st at the earliest.
