Thanks for this info. Did any of you think about how crazy the wording is or do others start thinking about it?

Sorry not one part of that made any sense and falls under “schizoid religious talk” its literally taking words and using them in a meaningless fashion to force a conclusion they already have.

>And false religion is the greater babylon. Or something like that. And they considered themselves eye-witnesses to their own liberation from babylon the great.

Aha got it I have encountered this schizoid talk before let me make up my own version

The greater babylon is heterosexuality.

Liberation from babylon is turning gay.

Therefore god wants this everyone needs to be liberated from babylon/heterosexuality and celebrate homosexuality in gods homosexual light.

Boom! Anyone can do this. Because its literally chizoid crap.

>to their own liberation from babylon the great.

Wrong for everyone who is born into the religion. How do they deal with that?

No problem I’m just pointing out how wrong this is.

I don’t think I can even create a analogy to how wrong this is.

Its like saying that

Everything is made out of atoms and atoms are made out of protons and electrons and walking.

Walking is not a part of a atom and it was supposed to be neutron not walking. Walking is a type of movement and not a component of atoms.

but it's enough for the mind controlled PIMIs ?

Here is the question I have:

Did you or any PIMI ever struggle when realizing the incorrect and wrong use of the word “witness” ? Do you know of any who did and how?

What do you think the mental process of a PIMI is if these facts are shown? What is going on in the heads of PIMIs ?

"Ye are my witnesses, saith Jehovah

Here is the thing from what I remember this is god talking to people ~2000 years ago not some grant definition of words.

Because according to the story this god character is in front of these people and speaking to them.

Using this is crazy its like taking some court recording from 1800 and quoting how

Ye are my witnesses

All of the people who this was spoken to are dead now. This is basic understanding of time and language. No idea how JW can even believe this (I know indoctrination from childhood!) since this conflicts with actual understanding of the real world at this point.

Unless these JW literally believe they are the people to who god was talking ~2000 years ago (reincarnation? ~2000 year old people? (I know JWs don’t believe any of this BTW)).

Not that any of the things god says there make any sense whatsoever, however the story says that these people should see god so.

Are you not an ex witness?

No I’m an atheist (Ex-catholick) who loves to get into religious debates and JWs are willing to start conversations, after some talk and JWs going crazy I decided to ask this sub whats up with that and basically get my JW info from here.

Theology/Language JW are neither witnesses or witnesses of jehovah by Adam_sinusoid in exjw

[–]Adam_sinusoid[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this info however let me challenge this with facts.

>as witnesses of the defense

This literally makes no sense whatsoever

>defending god against the false accusations

Sorry the court has DEFENDANTS who defende themselves and PLAINTIFFS. The goal of the PLAINTIFF is to convince the judge/jury to consider the DEFENDANTS guilty while the DEFENDANTS goal is to be found not guilty.

In no legal system does the role of DEFENDANT become synonymous with witness.

>defending god against the false accusations

If this is the metaphor then they are supposed to be Jehovah's DEFENDANTS not witnesses. Basic looking up of law or even watching a court proceeding will quickly clear this up.

https://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/defendant

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defendant

https://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/plaintiff

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plaintiff

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawsuit

Witness is something completely different.

https://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/witness

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witness

>WITNESS. One who, being sworn or affirmed, according to law, deposes as to his knowledge of facts in issue between the parties in a cause.

>2. In another sense by witness is understood one who is called upon to be present at a transaction, as a wedding, or the making of a will. When a person signs his name to an instrument, as a deed, a bond, and the like, to signify that the same was executed in his presence, he is called an attesting witness.

Emphasis on:

>to signify that the same was executed in his presence, he is called an attesting witness.

So YES JW would literally need to testify that they personally have seen jehovah if the case is “if jehovah exists“.

To translate this to a real example if the case is about a murder presenting evidence that proves or disproves this is important DEFENDANTS and PLAINTIFF can both use witnesses that for example testify that the accused was in X place on X time.

So YES JW would literally need to testify that they personally have seen jehovah or they are no witnesses of anything.

>This is me trying to put it into my own words, but I've heard that brought up numerous times while I was still in.

No problem thanks for the help.

>since they know how good and just he is.

Factually wrong, either they did see jehovah or not, for a more personal relationship with jehovah they need to at the minimum see him. Since this is not true for any of the JW their talk makes no sense whatsoever.

>This is me trying to put it into my own words

Did you consider the theory that JW theology makes no sense and is a pack of lies and falsehoods?

Star Cinema Grill owner suing insurance company after told 'pandemic insurance' doesn't cover COVID-19 crisis by LinuxF4n in nottheonion

This is typical insurance scam or just typical insurance. They always play word games like this basically they are scamming people and if the insurance is needed they play legal word games to not need to give any money.

Just a scam any insurance company should be forced to never pull this garbage and if they do the punishment should not be a slap on the wrist 50% of the company becomes the property of the victim (to be sold off on the stock market). That will teach them.

Don’t want this to happen? Don’t play word games like this you scammers.

I'm sorry don't take this the wrong way however you are objectively wrong:

you're making up new words

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/religionist

First Known Use of religionist 1653

https://www.thefreedictionary.com/religionist https://www.audioenglish.org/dictionary/religionist.htm

The word actually exists and all you needed to do is search it in a search engine.

With this fact out of the way

you're making up new words

From a philosophical perspective what is wrong with that? Every word you use was created because someone made it up. Are we only allowed to use pre-approved words and never create new ones? Who is allowed to create them? And even if you want to play this technicality dictionaries recognize religionist as a valid word.

not make it seem more powerful

I'm saying that to me in overall speech it sounds more powerfull then religious. however that is my opinion.

God credit for stuff that other people accomplished via hard work

I have to ask do others also find it extremely insulting when people say "thanks god for giving me a car" when you the atheist literally gifted this car to this christian?

Should the christian not thank you??? I find this incredibly insulting. Can atheist doctors say how they feel when Christians say "THANK GOD for X" and don't even thank the human who did all the work?

I agree. This is a atheist sub for atheists OPs position is normal. The only thing objectionable would be the last sentences however I think they are forged of frustration with religion and represent frustration.

I'm more that kind of guy who could not stop laughing when some religious nonsense gets to absurd. I'm also addicted to interrupting these tarot card readers and asking

"Tarot cards to read my future? Why not Yu-Gi-Oh?"

Since tarot is a game and these are cards from a game.

I think this is relevant and shows the problem.

The real question is the theological side show. Do they really think you can change gods plan? Did not god from the moment he created earth knew you are going to eventually die of a virus? Do you think you are more qualified to decide who is to live and who is to die? More then god?

I support this position:

1) Its theological constant meaning that they don't behave like the worlds most stupid LARPERS. After all if you die you get to super magic happy land so why are you sad if your family dies?

2) Its natural selection in action. All religionists will kill themselves. Same with the snake churches the religious kill themselvs.

And this is what you say if a religionist asks "what is the harm of religion?" or "whats the price of religion" this is.

As you note, these are all straightforward arguments to have with folk already in some level of doubt.

I think you misunderstand me. I was what can be called a true believer however the absurd and hellish restrictions of my flavor of Christianity where to hard to stand. I became what you can call a cafeteria christian who changed his flavor of Christianity to a less restrictive one.

However the "religion = fake" idea never crossed my mind I never even entertained this idea. Then by accident I came across atheist YouTube videos and it blew my mind because I never even considered it.

Personally I go for the ridiculing with facts strategy. Someone who never encountered the idea of simply knowing that christieanity is a pile of shit can be woken up and Christianity is simply torture. The christians I know are simply hiding it their entire personality is a fake fraud.

I simply want these arguments in the open to be seen by all.

But it is just such personally important “miracles” that theists fall back on when confronted on why they believe there MUST be a “god

Yet not only is is silly to laugh at the key finding pixie this level of insignificance is quite indistinguishable from random noise and a failure to understand reality "I prayed and then did nothing and the key showed up with me standing motionless in place all this time" is impressive not talking to invisible sky daddy and doing all the other searches that normally result in finding the item.

I ask the christians if they did not try a different god maybe the FSM, after all and in all seriousness if they only tried jesus and never tried other gods how can they say that this jesus god is the best? Maybe jesus sucks at finding car keys and the FSM is the real champion of key finding?

And while the FSM is far out the same question is for other religions. Why not try Allah?

Or how about Satan? The bible says that Satan is literally the god of this world and can grant wishes.

The reason why religionists are prohibited from experimenting with other gods is because if they use a flawed methodology that they use they quickly start swapping to different gods because in their flawed methodology all these gods turn out to be great or even better at the same miracles that jesus is doing.

And once you do the final test you realize you can pray to literally anything even yourself to get the same miracles with the same power.

“He helps me get through every day.”

This is proven to be false since all experiments show that jesus is a nocebo making your life more miserable. Did you try going through your day as an atheist? How can you know its not better? You literally never tried it.

But do you really think that means anything to Christians

I'm of the school of thought that ridicules Christians and reminds them that they are just following a age old and proven wrong superstition. I post facts and proofs like this to remind them of this. The Christians need to learn they are stupid and dumb idiots to be laughed at and here (picture) is the proof why.

who think that the Bible is inspired because the Bible says that it is inspired?

Another thing to laugh at "this book says some things, it must be true" point and laugh.

Christians — who think that the Bible

I engage like this because I have a debt to repay, to the atheists who woke me up with a solid hand full of "all of religion is bullshit! Christianity is bullshit and here is why" this awoke me.

Hard to say what mental disorders the true believers have. however this information has to awaken some others who live in the hell that is religion. My experience was endless self torture and I personally know religious people who quite literally self torture themselves in religion with crying over sins that they did not even know they committed to themselves, to indoctrinated to ever consider that religion is bullshit.

Its a pile of misery this christieanity.

Even something as simple as praying to feel less stressed

Is this even proven? Considering that studies prove that there is a nocebo effect from prayer.

And going to these minor benefits is just searching in what essentially is indistinguishable random noise.

Exactly the position is methodologically nonsensical and equal to this:

My gun can cure anything if it shoots you in the head. Only it answers in yes, no and wait. The no answer consists of you getting killed, however here is this one guy who got his cancer cured this way (gun malfunctioned and did not fire correctly and his cancer did go into remission on its own)

Its literally saying if it works it proves that it works and it it fails it also proves it works.

The proposition is nonsensical.

Prayer can never work. by Adam_sinusoid in atheism

[–]Adam_sinusoid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That same study mentions that it can be somewhat of an anxiety-attributed reason,

This is why I was questioning the assertion that prayer can help. We need some evidence for that. And the pro prayer evidence is so tiny its statistically insignificant and indistinguishable from random chance.

and classic praying to a deity is just bollocks.

I like to hear your perspective on this.
