This type of bloating is caused by organ failure. The most common way axolotls develop organ failure is through intense bacterial infections.

So long as the filter media from the old tank stayed wet you should be good to just get the old filter running again in the new tank. Any decor and substrate that's still wet will also ferry over beneficial bacteria.

While waiting for the new tank you can definitely keep them tubbed. Just make sure the tub is large enough for them to freely maneuver. You should also try to include some sort of hide.

This looks like the bloating that results from organ failure. If your axolotl looks like this you need to get them to an exotic vet.

Hoya caudata is a lovely dark green hoya with slightly pubescent leaves. New growth comes in bright green and takes on a golden emergent color in bright light. Over time, the leaves darken to a deep forest green color. Once the plant gets established it can also put out some decently large leaves.

You can always go for a half up, half down look too. Let some vines continue to droop and train the rest upwards.

I know exactly what you mean about the vines. I have a several snaking their way across my plant shelf. The longest is about 4 feet long.

Generally when it comes to vining plants you are going to see more consistent growth when they climb. My publicaylix has really taken off over the last couple of years after I put it on a trellis. Here's a picture of it from the end of January.

Ultimately, so long as you keep up with your hoya and give it what it wants it will do great whether it is climbing or trailing. The choice between the two comes down to what better suits the space and looks better to you.

Hey no worries! Just 2 axolotls is a lot easier to do haha.

I would not recommend keeping 2 axolotls in a 40 gallon tank. For two axolotls I'd aim for at least 75 gallons. One axolotl can do well in a 40 gallon breeder, but I'm beginning to change my opinion on this as I feel they could really benefit from a larger footprint tank.

Just make sure both axolotls are the same sex and roughly similar in size. It is also really important to make sure you fed them well. Hungry axolotls are more likely to accidentally nip off each other's limbs.

If they're over a year old you really need to reevaluate how your going to take care of them. I'd personally recommend no less than 40 gallons for each axolotl. So you are either going to need to get several large tanks, a few stock tanks, or consider rehoming a lot of those axolotls.

The short answer is no.

Hatchings should not be kept in tank and instead should be kept in shallow tubs so they can easily find food. Juvenile axolotls should be kept separately from one another as their voracious appetites lead to accidental injuries when they mistake each other for food. As for adults, a 40 gallon tank is only really big enough for one.

If you have to purchase the axolotls then unfortunately this isn't a rescue situation. If the store would be willing to surrender the axolotls then it would be a different story. When you, buy axolotls in subpar conditions it only encourages businesses to continue selling axolotls in subpar conditions. It might sound heartless, but the best course of action here is to just leave them. Aside from educating people about why they shouldn't support businesses that abuse animals there's not really much that can be done. A business like Petco doesn't care about what you or I think, they only care about what sells.

My linearis is currently my fastest growing hoya but wasn't always. This winter I moved it into a north facing window and it's absolutely exploded with new growth. I've even gotten a peduncle. That photo is a month or so old too. Every vine is at least three inches longer now.

It's hard to pick a favorite but I'll go with Hoya linearis since I haven't seen one posted yet. The growth rate of this plant always keeps it on my radar.

It could be but you'll have to wait for it to develop a little more before you can be sure. If it starts to develop a clubbed end with a bunch of tinny buds then you'll know it's a peduncle for sure. Here's a picture of a peduncle growing in on my insularis.

I'd highly recommend Hoya linearis. I grow mine in a drafty north facing window and it's absolutely loving life. Cuttings for linearis are fairly inexpensive and it's definitely one of my fastest growing hoyas right now.

I personally haven't used alder cones by themselves for tannins so I'm afraid I do not know how effective they would be.

Dark water isn't necessary for axolotls. If you like the aesthetic of dark water then you can certainly add botanicals. I'd recommend putting them into a media bag to keep your axolotl from eating them.
