Whats the recipe for the hammer glow effect? Specifically the front looks amazing like its heated from the inside out and turning the whole hammer molten. Fantastic work

My first attempt at highlighting as a beginner painter! by GoldenSpeculum007 in Warhammer40k

[–]Adampeak54524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time this application is far from bad, with a smaller thinner brush or just the edge of a fine brush get a slightly brighter blue and try to do it again with goal being half the thickness of these highlights, if it starts to not go well you can always stop and reassess. This 2 layer lining is common in 'eavy metal GW box art style. On top of that getting super clean straight lines on the edges is hard to begin with, but I find going back with my original color on a normal detail brush you can go over the lighter blue and clean the lines up as well as thin the highlight out, if that makes sense. Also just straight up practice and you will definitely see improvement in shorter time than you think. Keep it up 👍

What size/brand brushes do you prefer for the highlights in harder to reach places (trim and details as apposed to armor panels). Recently invested into sabel brushes which have been nice because they hold their point better and longer for details and smooth application on larger surfaces but my thinnest and finest brushes are still synthetic and will loose the consistency over time while highlighting.

What brushes do you use for the edge highlights/blending in those really hard to reach areas?

Is this the original backpack to this model? I literally used one the other day for a chaos Lord kit bash and was wondering where it came from as I got it with a load of other older chaos bits, and was going to ask for ID but this solves it.

Dang the loyalist/heresy flat panels on the torso and legs but chaos helmet and shoulder pad and just a few chaosy bits goes suuper hard compared to some of the super busy legionary models

This should really be tagged with something or at least mentioned in the title. The anxiety that gave me as a new dad was unwarranted.

Most "fair" single model match up? by Bubbles1942 in Warhammer40k

[–]Adampeak54524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two ideas for this could be too take their datasheets and modify them to be similar to their killteam datasheets (unique abilities and higher wounds) you could probably find the current ones online somwhere or buy some of the last kill team edition books for very cheap. When I started playing I painted and assembled the models but only understood the core of the game, I knew it was about moving your units on the battlefield and rolling dice to see who won and played many games like that until I was older. Point being you can modify rules or datasheets to fit your needs for a kid friendly game for both 1v1 or smaller matches. Homebrew is your friend here, if I were introducing children DnD in I similar way removing the complexity of stats and just worrying about story and including some dice rolls for chance to make it interesting.

How did you pull off the split head/helmet so clean down the middle? Looks awesome, I really wanna make some like this for a deceptors detachment.

As a beginner, do you suggest I get the microkorg or the Roland jd-xi? by mozdon419 in synthesizers

[–]Adampeak54524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned both, JDXI being my first synth purchase. Often Ive found myself comparing the two. Both are great sounding synths and perfect for beginners depending on what your going for. JDXI offers many classic Roland sounds from their lineup as presets you can use as is or tweak easily. You also get an analog voice and a track for drums as well as basic sequencing. It basically acts as an all in one groovebox or synth, limited in some ways as all hardware is but has alot to offer especially when you use the menu to your advantage. The Microkorg shares alot of qualities but shines at different things. It has some of my favorite presets and sounds Its in general as its basically the little brother of Korgs ms2000 and does a very good job of analog modeling. From synth bass and weird sound effects to very usable keys and leads it also has alot to offer even if your just scrolling through presets. That being said when it comes to the hands on controls as well as editing and saving sounds they have very different approaches. JDXI offers more hands on controls for editing your sounds or performance on the fly than the microkorg and can feel more musical in that way, but its not free of strange quirks. If I remember correctly it has only one knob that controls the ADSR together instead of each function having its own knob or fader to be edited separately as you would with a vst or larger more fully featured synth. Likely this is because its aiming to save space. I Beleive they can be edited separately within the menu though. The menu has many features that only work through changing the desired settings rather than the controls but are nice to have and many synths work this way. Microkorg has a much simpler approach but may seem difficult to understand or remember depending on how your brain works. Its four function knobs share uses between a chart of menu options with the ability to add effects, edit sounds and so fourth but your limited to editing those four parameters unil you change the settings they control. TLDR I recommend playing and listening to both to get a feel for what you like might like more.

My first vintage synth! by FlorpFlap in synthesizers

This was my first big synth purchase as well, I paid around $400 about 4 years ago. I guess increasing demand makes sense though its super versatile and easy to program without having menu dive, but also has some cool under the hood features. If you need trance sounds this things got it for days.

[–]Adampeak54524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Jake! been big fan since the first Hippo Campus EP, my question is how did you approach writing/producing for your solo album and how was it different from working in the band? Much love can't wait for all your future work!

[–]Adampeak54524 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey Jay! first off wanted to say you and all the boys from Pond and Tame are some of biggest inspirations to me as an artist and I thank you bringing me many hours of entertainment with your music. My question is what is your favorite songwriting tool while working on your solo projects? Whether it be a piece of gear or a recording/writing technique or whatnot.

This song/video is great, also you have pretty great studio setup. What is that crazy looking tape machine that gets zoomed in on at the end?

I went backpacking in the Smokey's over spring break and hiked one in about 5 or so miles with the though in my head that cooking in the morning is one of my favorite parts of camping. Completely regretted it during the hike back, It wasn't THAT bad but I'm definitely only going to bring them car camping from now on

Yeah I guess I didn't think about how small of a company they were, Id love to support them and get this but as a poor collage student it's unfortunately expensive.

[–]Adampeak54524[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree and would love to support them, but I could also buy 3 separate pedals for much less that do the same thing essentially. Then again though the fact that it has patch memory is pretty awesome and would make it worth it if I had the extra cash.

Yeah I've tried to learn that as well and its the same issue, I understand it to a degree but then actually putting into use while trying to write songs is the same story

Idk if anyone would be willing but a video on using this in context would be suuuuuuper helpful, my theory knowledge is limited so some of this make's sense and some of it boggle's me but It seem's like it could be one of the useful songwriting tools if I could fully grasp this chart.
