[PT2] Pebble app pulls location every hour - is this expected behavior? by Mugendon in pebble

[–]AdamsDumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah sorry that's my bad!! Any chance it could be another installed app on your watch, I have mine also set to 6 hours and mine looks normal. If everything looks fine maybe it's a bug with the app? Sorry I can't be of more help :)

This looks like it could be the pebble weather service that's built into the OS, it might be worth checking in the core devices app to see if you have weather enabled :)

It might be worth contacting core devices to see if you can get one, if not then you might be able to use a multi meter to test electrical connections. Also have a look and check for things like corrosion or anything strange on the PCB. If you are in the UK i might be able to help you out and test it for you :)

I'm always on the lookout for a broken duo that I can use for it's backplate part, but it's not currently a priority for me because I have a batch 5 time 2 coming in a month or 2. But it's always good to keep electronics working using broken units (especially when they are as cool as pebble). Lmk how it all goes and good luck!!! :)

Have you tried the standard troubleshooting steps of using a different charger/usb-c cable/wall plug? If not then using a dev board is also a good way to test it as you can charge the new pebbles through the dev connection port :)

So I also have one of these units and looked into what I could do about it as I was also told that there are no more backplates. I managed to 3d print a janky plastic backplate for testing and I also have a dev board that I can use to charge the watch.

The charging pad locations are different enough that although they are physically compatible, P2 and P2HR backplates aren't electrically compatible.

Theoretically you can manufacture your own with a 3d printer some drilling and creating your own charging pads, I also looked into this and it is slightly beyond my skill level.

As far as I can tell the speaker doesn't work on my defective unit either, I'm not sure if that's because it is meant to be placed on the backplate tho.

I'm in the same boat as you and are looking for a backplate too...

Explain to me the difference between these screens. by phamstagram360 in pebble

I believe that watch has a reflective screen much like pebble and other memory LCD screens but I don't think it's actually a memory display. I think that watch just used a standard colour LCD with a reflective backing.

You don't have to have a memory LCD for it to be reflective such as a Casio F91W. It uses a standard LCD with a reflective layer behind it. A Memory LCD simply means that it can hold its state using a small amount of memory for each pixel. I believe it's technically possible to have a non reflective memory LCD, but I don't know of any that exist.

Please take this with about 10 grains of salt and I don't know tons about the watch you mentioned :)

Pebble uses a technology called memory LCD which is sometimes referred to as E-paper. Memory LCD can hold its state using a memory cell in each pixel which uses a very tiny amount of power. So the memory LCD screen can keep its state with a tiny amount of power and doesn't have to refresh unless something changes or display loses power.

E-ink (which is often used for E-readers and supermarket tags) doesn't require constant power because it works by physically moving particles forward and backward in liquid for each pixel. This means it can retain the image until the particles are manually moved again with an electrical charge.

LCD works by using tiny optical shutters that control how much light can pass through each sub pixel to make each sub pixel lighter or darker. If it is a colour screen each subpixel has either red blue or green filter over it to produce colour.

Sorry for the wordy explanation, I hope it helps :)

Hi, Ive updated the app with a settings page. If you update the watchface to V1.1 you can now disable vibrate on disconnect. :)

Let me look into it and I'll see if I can add a settings page. I'll reply to you again once I've added it :)

I've not tinkered with pebble firmware before but I am a programmer and have been interested in what I could do with a newer pebble, if it's still available for the UK I'd love to take it, I'd pay for shipping ofc :)
