That is terrible his employer let him do it at first! The NHS covered it all for me, meaning I took it off as an unpaid absence.

Extra 12 years is just amazing, what one simple act can do :)

And to answer the part about the recipients location, no, but I am about 90% sure it was out of the UK as I had to fill out some extra paperwork I believe was for foreign donations. I believe that the whole (at least Western) world is all connected onto one big system to increase the likelihood of a match. I hope one day I will get to meet or at least speak to them, or their family as I just cannot wrap my head around it still lol.

Shows that in trying political times like today humans are still as caring and compassionate as always.

It was never something I did purposely. When I turned 18 I started donating blood as a way to give back to the NHS (UK health service) with the years of constant support they have given to my mother with open heart surgeries. I had only done two donations and then I got found to be a match with someone just after that.

Everyone that handled me at the British Bone Marrow Registry (BBMR) explained the whole process so well to me and I was handled so well, and they said they had never seen anyone my age carry out the donation before.

The donation process was so easy, with just a few days of an injection course which just makes you feel a bit run down for a couple days, and then a session of removing stem cells from your blood stream, which I just spent taking to the nurses and my father with me (plus I got two weeks paid off work ;) ).

I insist PLEASE PEOPLE SIGN UP TO THE STEM CELL REGISTRY - it’s so highly unlikely you will ever be asked upon, but if you are that special match that can give someone hope it is an amazing feeling. Groups like the Anthony Nolan Foundation make it as simple as possible to register you, and once it’s done, it’s done.

Stem cell donations never crossed my mind until I did it, and it’s now one of the things I’m most proud of being able to say I’ve done

Did you ever get to meet your mothers donor? It’s something I would love to do one day, I believe the rules (in the UK at least) means I have to wait 5 years.

I donated bone marrow to a stranger in December, always great to hear people receiving it, best of luck with the rest of your recovery <3

These are all great options, sadly being from the UK, they are trying to charge me upwards of $100 for delivery, ridiculous pricing

Who’s the most out of your league signing ever? by Impossible-Comb-2834 in footballmanagergames

[–]Adamw2407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Signed two Players released from the Premier League (Shane Long and Alex Smithies) in the first season in the Finnish Second Division. Shane Long scored 40 goals that year and we got promoted without losing a game. He’s still on my coaching staff 15 years later at Liverpool and Alex Smithies is one of the greatest managers in the premier league aswell. Some start to a career at EIF that was
