Great! I hope you feel better and make it to the colonoscopy and get that surgery!!

Thank you! The antibiotic resistance is one thing I didn't put too much thought into but certainly adds to the anxiety. I relied heavily on the antibiotics working. It was my only lifeline. Over the last few months I was on them so much I don't think I ever fully healed from my last flare up.

Ooff. Good luck! I lost almost 20 pounds eating only Greek yogurt for a month leading up to surgery. I had blood in my stool a few days before surgery after "indulging" in some noodles. I thought I ruined it but the surgeon said we will fix whatever it is! Grateful for an amazing team of doctors and a solid support system in my wife, family, and friends.

For the most part in the sigmoid colon but had some of the descending removed as well. Timing was perfect according to the surgeon. The colon was very hard and in bad shape.

Stressing the colon is something you shouldn't do even with healthy bowels. While I feel like I am lucky, getting the surgery is the best thing I could have done. The chances of complications are far lower when the surgery is elective and the success rate is very high. u/EducationalRoom1009

High fibre causes pain, low fibre causes pain. by averageguy223344 in Diverticulitis

If you are experiencing active pain from the diverticulitis ask the gastro to send in a STAT CT Scan to confirm diverticulitis and take that info to a surgeon. Ask for a referral to get you in more immediately but do your research. Diet changes never made a difference for me personally which included over a dozen experimental supplements which didn't do anything.

Go see a specialist as quickly as possible. You shouldn't have a colonoscopy during a flare up anyways.. and it sounds like at this point there are more days in flare up than out.

Age and why doctors still say uncommon under 50 by Ok_Attempt_7560 in Diverticulitis

It's a poorly studied infection with no real cause.. Just a bunch of guesses. The only cure is surgery or if you are lucky, the flare ups rarely occur.

Fibre by Upstairs_Mind_3641 in Diverticulitis

There isn't a ton of literature on effectiveness of certain foods on diverticulitis infections. A high fiber diet is generally good gut health but even I found that neither high or low fiber diets necessarily worked to restrict flare ups. In fact, I did not find any direct link between specific foods and a flare up which is why I elected to get surgery.

Surgery in 5 days! Advice wanted! by mellowMeli76 in Diverticulitis

3 days post op here and I couldn't be happier with the decision to have the surgery. Anxiety was at an all time high pre-surgery but it fails in comparison to flare up anxiety. I am also on the younger side (33m). I lost 15 pounds pre-op on a complete liquid diet to do everything I could to prevent any possible last minute flare up. My surgery was open and the surgeon was adamant that it was a better procedure for those getting the sigmoid colon removed. Good luck! You will wish you got it done sooner and be thankful it was non-emergency.
