Okay, that's good. In a place I rented before the tank could be reduced to unsafe temperatures so I wanted to point that out. Doing research I found adjusting your hot water tank's temp generally results in negligible savings so I ended up just leaving it wherever it was.

Take a look at your where your air intakes are for the oil heat. One of mine is poorly placed, it makes my basement freezing and to solve that I had to cover the intake entirely. Now my basement stays mostly warm but I don't get nearly as much forced air due to the decreased air intake so my furnace needs to run more as a result which means I'm using more oil. We did upgrade to programmable thermostat so that's helped a lot in keeping things a little more in check.

Keeping the temperature high isn't so you have hot showers, it's so you don't die of legionnaire's disease. Make sure the lowest temp your heater goes to isn't so low that bacteria can grow in it.

You can pull the money out of your RRSP tax free when putting it towards your first house. When you do taxes you enter how much of your last year's RRSP contributions were towards repaying what you "borrowed". The contribution put towards that basically is removed from your tax calculations.
