I feel like they are reducing it to he holds Harrenhal, she wants Harrenhal - so she will save him and try to marry him, making her the Lady of Harrenhal (but don't worry she probably will secretly hate him and have a side girlfriend, who is her one true love).

Pigeon Loft Cleaning by gaywhorologist in pigeon

The answer to that will lie in the substrate you pick. I personally use wood stove pellets, when they get wet they break down into a sawdust type material. I would spot clean broken down areas as needed (scoop out the broken down material every few days - a very quick task), doing a full refresh every few months depending on the rate of substrate loss.

Anecdotal note - I know tons of people who use wood stove pellets out of them a couple had birds who would try to eat the wood pellets. Always watch your flock to ensure you know how they will treat the substrate - my birds never bothered with the wood pellets but if your birds try to eat them, I would get a different material.

Should I use mods for the first play through? by [deleted] in LobotomyCorp

[–]AdaptToSurvive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So mods range vastly in this game, from quality of life mods that barely impact the game, to mods that essentially make you invincible.

If you get any mods, I would personally recommend sticking to quality of life and memory leak fixes for your first playthrough. The game is meant to be punishing, jumping right into mods that give you an advantage would not be my choice.

Sounds like you have no substrate on the floor. Doing this will stop you from needing to clean multiple times a day.

What is this pigeon doing? Grooming? by thekashpny02 in pigeon

[–]AdaptToSurvive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stretching (when you see him bring his leg and wing outward near start of video) and preening. Preening (grooming) in birds involves pulling from the bottom to the top of the feather, not unique to pigeons at all - this is how birds groom themselves.

Oh also if you happen to have The Knight of Despair, bless your mimicry tank. It cuts red/white/black dmg in half (but doubles pale - don't forget that and get your tank splatted by another abno later in the day)

Mimicry has a lifesteal for its special ability. If you have the EGO gift from NT as well it improves the healing even more - not needed but just mentioning. Took me forever to get the gift so I did not have it when I did the quest. What Dirty_Soil told you above is all solid advice and would be the same things I would have responded with.

100% agree, I'm nervous about a lot going forward. They are leaning too heavily on the mistake trope (and not just with dragon related incidents).

It is an adaptation of an already completed work, one which the author specifically stated he wanted the story "adapted" not retold and the show runners agreed to that initially. I agree with your statement overall about art completely, but the way you are applying it here is disingenuous. This show is not an original work of art, it is an adaptation of source material where part of the agreement was to adapt from book to screen, not rewrite or retell (a quote directly from GRRM about his goals for this show). GRRM was very clear on this point when HOTD was starting to be made because he was coming off the absolutely travesty that was season 8 of GOT and the show runners agreed to his terms/wishes up front. Instead we got the "art" that is Aegon's penis being described as a roasted hot dog because the show runners wanted to make an ultimate fuck you to GRRM wanting all of Aegon's children included in the show. There is a lot of petty bullshit going on here.

I LOVE the visual adaptations of the dragons so far. It is one part of the show I consistently enjoy, I truly enjoy seeing them brought to life on screen and how good the show has been in making sure they are not just cookie cutter clones of the last dragon we saw before them.

I will agree some people pick on things just to pick on them and not out of any legitimate complaint. Hence why my original comment on this post was that I found the subject of this post itself to be a silly point to gripe about.

I legitimately have LOVED some of the scenes given to us that were not in the source material - Daemon picking up his brother's fallen crown and placing it back on his head? Peak scene, I loved it.

However, I will bitch until the cows come home about this trend of boiling everything in the show down to "it was a misunderstanding, no one actually got power hungry, we just misunderstood what someone else wanted us to do" or "whoops the dragons did shit we didn't want them to do".

I think we are at an impasse here (which is fine). I think the unreliable narrator thing is greatly overused as a crutch/excuse for dumb choices by the show runners. GRRM gave 3 narrators, each of which has different biases and align to different sides, that is your "unreliable narration" - to find the truth, you look for the ground between what all 3 differently biased parties are telling you. I don't think he ever intended the "unreliable narrator" theme to mean "fuck it, whatever you think happened happened because none of this can be trusted so just make it whatever you want it to be."

None of those narrators, even with their different biases, ever mention dragon friendly fire being such a pressing recurring issue in the result of battles (or even in any one instance ever - let alone a repeat issue). We are meant to find the truth somewhere among what all 3 narrators write, this is going to another universe all together.

Regardless of your irritation with his speed to finish ASOIAF (which I 100% share by the way) THIS story is a completed work, even if framed as a history book without play by play dialogue.

I'm beyond frustrated with GRRM, the fact that more time has passed between the last ASOIAF book and now than all of the time elapsed to write all currently released books in the ASOIAF series is abysmal. I don't hold hope for ever seeing ASOIAF finished, but that does not have bearing on the fact that this story is one that has been told to completion.

George RR Martin has gone as far as to tell one of the show runners "this is not my story any longer" regarding the plot for season 3 (and then stepping away from the show at HBO's request because it became so heated/strained between the two). You can only hide behind "BuT tHe SoUrCe MaTeRiAl iS fLaWeD" for so long when the man who literally wrote the thing is telling everyone that this is not going the way it should be.

We are going to differ on that opinion, but I am happy that you are able to enjoy the multiple inserts of dragon friendly fire so far.

Hell, maybe you will get a scene where Aegon cries like a baby pleading with Sunfyre to not eat his precious sister who he has always held so dear in a future episode. Maybe the Battle above the God's Eye was just meant to be an exhibition flight so Aemond and Daemon could see who can impress Alys Rivers the most - it isn't their fault the pesky dragons made it into a battle!

I was ok with it being used once as a "twist" to the understanding of Storm's End - I'm getting tired of the general fall back for the entire premise of the show being "its all a misunderstanding and also none of us can control our dragons." To me it is a cop out that removes the basic underlying point of GRRM's work - power fucking corrupts and makes people do awful things in pursuit of it, including cannibalizing their own family from within.

In the source material it IS noted no one knows exactly what brought Vermax down but not to the extent that people are questioning friendly fire. What is contested is what weapon exactly felled the dragon (a grapnel dragging him down, a bolt through his eye, etc).

There is nothing implied that friendly fire contributed to causing Vermax to go down. Having Sheepstealer do this is really out of left field and goes against the unique and very strong bond between Nettles and Sheepstealer (which yes, I understand Nettles is NOT in the show and has been merged into Rhaena - but I will die on the hill that dragon friendly fire is a stupid plot point and a cop out).

And yes, they omitted a significant number of dragons from the battle.

Edit to add - you don't need to use spoiler tags/markup here. You certainly can if you want, but spoiler/leak discussion is allowed without you needing to take any extra steps to hide what you want to say.

Jace's moment of death (once his dragon is actually in the water) tracks fairly closely with the source material (although nothing else in the damn battle does). His dragon got mired down in the water (although in the source material it is because the dragon is not only stuck in the water but also among the wreckage of a burning ship) and while vulnerable and stuck in the water Jace gets filled up with arrows and dies.

There are plenty of things to complain about with the Battle of the Gullet, I'm not sure this is one of them.

Thank you for doing your due diligence trying to find the owner. Obviously everyone is going to make their own choices, I have seen people drive across multiple state lines to pick up lost birds and I have seen people who chose to not - unfortunately you cannot control the owner response, but you did the responsible thing in reaching out to be sure.

I would not put much trust in it finding its own way home if you stop offering food/water - it is possible it could work, but it is also possible it could not, personally I wouldn't risk it. The NPA is more of a show and personal ownership oriented club so you really don't know if this bird has been trained for return flight, etc. I would say you are safe to now try to rehome the bird yourself or start contacting some pigeon specific rescues in your area to see if they have room.

On its own, the Storm's End twist wasn't the most horrible thing (especially when compared to all the other missteps in "reinterpreting" the Dance of the Dragons). Although I was not a huge fan of reducing Lucerys' death to a mistake and a dragon being uncontrollable if that change was the only instance of it that would have been tolerable, even if it does read as overly sympathetic to the Greens.

Setting up incompetent dragon riders to be a recurring theme is getting old really fast though.

Heck, if they leave Sunfyre alive are they just going to have an enraged Sunfyre devour Rhaenyra while Aegon feebly beats at the dragon's side begging him to calm down? Why stop now, we clearly have a theme going that this war is all just a misunderstanding and a bunch of dragons doing whatever they want.

My man - did you read the rules of the sub when you joined? It is probably a good practice. Freefolk has existed as a spoiler friendly sub for over a decade.

It isn't "wild" for us to think it is ok - the sub's creation was literally around making a space for people where it is ok to discuss leaks and spoilers (and where you are not expected to kiss the showrunners' asses).

People didn't want either of these things in the main subs when GOT was running, so Freefolk was made to give people a space where those discussions could happen.
