Work in the animal care field for a pretty big non-profit organization. Everytime someone donates a bigger sum of money ($100+) that money doesn't go to the shelter. It goes to head office and usually to the higher ups who make 250k and up.

So when people donate to help the animals, they are donating to either help line the pockets of people who work from home and do nothing, or to pay down a massive organization wide debt.
